BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KYLE WOODEN, GUILFORD COLLEGE
Wooden, a sophomore from Monroe, North Carolina, earns his second baseball weekly honor of the of the season.  Wooden hit .591 with two homers, three doubles and eight RBI in the Quakers' 5-2 week, including 3-1 in league play.  He had 13 hits and a 1.000 slugging percentage on the week.  He had three multiple-hit games, including a career-high five-hit performance in Guilford's 11-4 win at Emory & Henry.  Wooden now has 12 multi-hit games.  He went 9-13 with three doubles, two homers and eight RBI in four ODAC games.  He broke a 6-6 tie with a 2-run double in the 8th that lifted Guilford past Hampden-Sydney, 8-6.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
MICHAEL BLOCHER, GUILFORD COLLEGE
Blocher, a junior from Mooresville, North Carolina, won both games of Guilford's doubleheader sweep of Hampden-Sydney.  He pitched four innings in four appearances, allowing two hits and four runs.  He fanned three batters while walking none during his relief stints.  Blocher picked up his second save of the season in the Quakers' first game of the week, going 1.1 innings of relief in Guilford's 6-2 win over Maryville (Tenn.). 

Baseball Honor Roll
Casey Hartman, BC Hartman made two starts on the week and was 1-0. He pitched seven innings in an 8-2 victory over Hampden-Sydney. He gave ups six hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out 10 and walking four. Hartman started at Va. Wesleyan on three days rest and pitched the first three innings. He allowed two runs on two hits.
Daniel Martin, EMU Martin hit .615 this past week with eight hits in 13 at-bats as the Royals went 1-2 on the week.  EMU split with Emory & Henry in a series that saw Martin go 5-for-8 with three runs scored and three RBI.  Against Randolph-Macon, "D-Mar" had three hits in five at-bats with a run scored and an RBI.  For the season, the junior transfer from Hesston College (Kan.) is hitting .323 with four extra base hits and 10 RBI.
Anthony Lowry, E&H Lowry batted .429 this week with nine runs scored, two doubles, three RBI and was 5-of-5 on stolen bases. In the Wasps victory over EMU Lowry was 2-for-3 with four runs scored. In the Wasps upset win over Guilford Lowry was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. E&H won 3-of-7 games during the week. Lowry leads the team on the season with a .403 batting average.
Jordan Watkins, LC Returned to the starting lineup on Friday, and made the most of the opportunity as he had hits in five of his 10 at-bats for the week. Playing second base, he was stellar in the field, making two diving plays in the Montclair State game Friday to save runs. At the plate, his week was highlighted by a three-for-four day in game two of the home twin-bill with Randolph-Macon . For the season, Watkins is hitting .429 with two doubles and seven runs scored.
Conner Thompson, LC Thompson held defending conference champion and preseason-favorite Randolph-Macon to no runs and three hits as LC won the first game of a doubleheader sweep 7-0. Thompson struck out eight hitters, including fanning the side in the top of the seventh to end the game. He only threw 79 pitches through seven, as he also did not walk a batter. With the victory, Thompson improves to 5-0 on the season, which ties for the top spot in the ODAC thus far.
Michael Wallace, R-MC Wallace had seven hits in 18 at bats this week for R-MC this week.  He scored seven runs, drove in seven and hit a pair of homeruns, including a three-run game winning homer against Tufts on Friday.
Mike Marion, VWC Marion extended a current hitting streak to five consecutive games with at least one hit in a four-game week for the Marlins.  He hit .400 overall, highlighted by a home run against Shenandoah and another in the first game against Bridgewater.  Marion now has six homers on the season and moves closer to the VWC single-season record of 10.  VWC is now 13-6.
Jesse Baker, VWC Baker improved to 5-0 and helped the Marlins to a 6-2 conference win over Bridgewater College.  He struck out four batters, walked one, and allowed two earned runs and six hits in the win.  Baker not only improved his record to 5-0, but also improved his ERA to 2.70.  He has 11 strikeouts this season.
Anthony Cardona, W&L Cardona helped lead the Generals to a 4-0 week by playing in three games and batting .636 with three doubles, one homerun and five RBI.  In a 5-2 win over Southern Virginia on Tuesday, he went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and one RBI.  Then, in a double-header sweep of Roanoke on Saturday, we went a combined 4-for-6 with a double, a homerun, two runs scored and four RBI.  For the season, Cardona is batting .344 with six doubles, two triples, two homeruns and a team-best 14 RBI.

 


 

GOLFER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MIKE REDWOOD, BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE
Redwood, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Virginia, earns his second weekly award of the season.  Redwood was the top ODAC finisher at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, finishing tied for 25th in the competitive field 150 golfers.  He fired rounds of 77-75-74 to finish at 10-over-par (226), four shots better than the next ODAC golfer at the event. 


MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MATT QUINTON, ROANOKE COLLEGE
Quinton, a junior from Elora, Ontario, Canada, scored nine goals and added an assist for 10 points in two games last week. He netted five goals along with an assist in a 27-6 win over previously undefeated Richard Stockton Wednesday. Against #8 Cabrini, he scored four goals to lead the Maroons to a 16-13 win on the road Saturday. He currently leads the team in scoring (43 pts), goals (34), shots (71), SOG (51) and man-up goals (6). Quinton is only seven points shy of becoming the 40th member of the 100-point club at Roanoke in less than two years with the program. 

Men's LacrosseHonor Roll
Daniel Dowd, GC Scored a team-high two goals in Guilford's lone contest, an 11-5 home loss to Richard Stockton... picked up a career-high five ground balls in the game.
Will Keigler, W&L Keigler helped lead Washington and Lee to a 2-0 week by totaling four goals and four assists in the two wins.  He notched three goals and two assists in a 22-3 win over Sewanee on Wednesday, then tallied one goal and two assists in an 18-9 win over Greensboro on Saturday.  For the season, Keigler leads W&L in scoring with 30 points on 16 goals and 14 assists.

 


 

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
EMMY MATHEWS, WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
Mathews, a sophomore from Baltimore, Maryland, led the Generals to a 2-1 week. W&L fell to No. 11 Trinity, 14-13 in double overtime, but defeated Sweet Briar 20-2 and Virginia Wesleyan, 13-7. Mathews tied a career-high with five goals in the loss to Trinity. In the win over SBC, she notched four goals and one assist, while she totaled three goals in the win over VWC. 

Women's LacrosseHonor Roll
Carrie Ernst, GC Led Guilford in a 1-1 week with 10 points on 8 goals and two assists... also had a team-best eight draw controls and picked up seven ground balls... recorded seven goals and nine points, both career and game highs, in Guilford's Mar. 17 win over Frostburg State... her seven goals rank third in school history and her nine points stand fourth... picked up a game-best five draw controls in the game... scored once and picked up a team-high six ground balls in Guilford's league loss to Roanoke.
Morgan Logue, LC Logue tallied seven goals and one assist last week as the Hornets went 1-1. She added two groundballs, five draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Morgan Hutchinson, R-MC Hutchinson helped R-MC to a 1-1 week.  After a loss to Mary Washington, she led R-MC to a 14-8 ODAC home win over Bridgewater.  She tied for the team lead with three goals in the win, while she scooped up three ground balls and forced five Eagle turnovers.  For the week, she had four goals and one assist.
Brooks Laufman, RC Totaled 11 points with nine goals and two assists in three games last week... scored four goals against #2 Salisbury in a 23-13 loss... had three goals and one assist in a 10-6 win at Guilford... scored two goals and added an assist in 12-5 win at Lynchburg... second on the team in goals (20), assists (9), points (29) and shots (44)... latest member of the 100-point club at Roanoke and is 22nd all-time with 117 points.

 


 

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
HILLARY REES, BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE
Rees, a freshman from Bridgewater, Virginia, hit for a .500 average in eight games to lead the Eagles to a 7-1 record on the week. The Bridgewater leadoff hitter was 13-for-26 in the eight games with 13 runs scored, five RBIs, five doubles and six stolen bases. Rees hit safely in all eight games during the week and had a .580 on-base percentage. For the season, Rees is hitting .424 for the Eagles, now 17-1 overall on the season

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
BRITTANEY BROWN, VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE
Brown, a junior from Chesapeake, Virginia, helped lead the Marlins to a 4-2 week, with a 4-0 record from the pitching circle. She guided VWC to an 8-4 win over Randolph-Macon, a 5-3 win at #19 Roanoke, and a sweep at Ferrum, 5-3 and 1-0. Brown pitched in 28 innings and struck out 30 batters, including 12 in the win over R-MC, tying the VWC single-game record. She now has 84 Ks on the season, the seventh highest single-season total in Marlin history. Her effort increased her career total of strikeouts to 252, moving her into third place past Kelly Rust, who had 245 from 1999 through 2002. 

Softball Honor Roll
Ashley Gills, BC Gills finished 3-0 on the week, allowing just one earned run. Gills pitched a seven-inning complete game in a 5-1 win over EMU. She allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out five and walking one. She pitched four scoreless innings in a 4-1 victory over Randolph allowing just four hits while striking out two and walking none. Gills capped her week with a five-inning complete game shutout over Guilford where she allowed four hits while striking out three and walking one. For the season, Gills is 6-0 with a 0.78 ERA
Kelly Hale, GC Helped Guilford to three ODAC wins in six games with two homers and 8 RBI... hit .278 in six games with five hits, including a double and two homers... hit .400 with two homers and 7 RBI in the Quakers' three victories.... became Guilford's career RBI leader in the Quakers' first win over Roanoke in school history... went 3-4 with a homer, double and four RBI in the game... also had an RBI in the nightcap, a 3-2 loss in 8 innings... belted her second homer in three games, a 2-run shot, in the 4th inning of Guilford's 6-3 win at Eastern Mennonite... added an RBI in the nightcap victory over the Royals.
Shelby Bowser, BC Won her first college game, a complete-game four-hitter against Eastern Mennonite... fanned a career-high six batters and walked one... also drew a walk and scored a run in Guilford's 4-1 win.
Katie Bruce, LC Bruce hit .400 and slugged .650 this week in six games. In her 20 at bats, she recorded eight hits, seven RBI, six runs, one triple, and one home run. Bruce also threw for 14 innings in the pitchers circle as she went 3-0 in three starts, allowing zero runs, two walks, and nine hits along with eight strikeouts. Opponents batted just .188 against her for the week In two games against Randolph, Bruce combined to go 4-7 with three runs, one homerun, and 3 RBI. Saturday vs. E&H she went 3-7 with a triple and three RBI.
Barbie Miles, LC Miles went 3-0 in three starts last week. She had two complete game shutouts in 18.0 innings pitched. Barbie allowed just eight hits and three walks while striking out 20 batters. Opponents batted just .133 against her for the week. Wednesday against Randolph College she pitched five innings and surrendered just two hits and zero free passes with six strikeouts. Saturday against the Wasps she a six-inning one-hitter, striking out five while tossing just one BB. Sunday versus EMU saw her allow five hits and two walks while fanning nine Royals.
Nikki Smith, RAND Smith led the WildCats offensively batting .444 with three doubles and one homerun. She plated six runs helping Randolph record its first two ODAC wins of the season.
Teresa Dalton, RAND Dalton picked-up two wins in the circle for Randolph this week, seeing action in at least three innings of every contest. She fanned 24 batters in 32.5 innings of work. Dalton boasted a 3.88 earned run average during the week.
Ashley Crouch, R-MC Crouch hit a two-run homer in the final inning of Game One of Sunday's doubleheader to defeat Roanoke (ranked #20 in the nation by Division III Softball - The Newsletter )  3-2.
Courtney Brooks, R-MC Brooks went 3-1 this week as she struck out 19 batters in 23 innings of work. In her last two appearances, the Yellow Jackets tallied a combined five runs. However, Brooks piloted R-MC to two tight one-run games, allowing three hits in each contest. On Saturday against VA State, Brooks held her opponent to one run in seven innings. The senior struck out ten batters to allow R-MC to pick up the 2-1 win. On Sunday against Roanoke, Brooks held the 20th-ranked Maroons to just two runs on three hits in the seven-inning, complete-game win. Brooks' season record now stands at 5-3.
Kristy White, VWC White helped VWC to a 4-2 week hitting at a .368 clip.  Her efforts were highlighted by a 3-for-3, with a a pair of doubles, in a 5-3 win over #19 Roanoke College.  White registered at least one hit in four of the six games and drove in eight runs.  White also recorded three more stolen bases during the week to improve to 9-for-9.  She is now hitting .348 overall to lead the 14-6 Marlins.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JEREMY BECHT, WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
Becht, a freshman from Woodstock, Georgia, earns his second weekly honor of the season.  Becht led the Generals to a 2-1 week. W&L defeated Randolph, 9-0 and Hampden-Sydney, 7-2, but fell to Carengie Mellon, 8-1. Becht did not play against Randolph, but won his singles matches 6-2, 6-2 before pairing up with teammate Freeman to defeat H-SC's doubles partners, 8-3. In the loss to Carnegie Mellon, Becht was the only W&L player to record a victory. He won his singles matches, 6-3, 6-0, but lost in doubles, 8-5. 

Men's Tennis Honor Roll
Will Mason-Deese, GC Went 1-2 in singles and 1-2 doubles in the Quakers' 1-2 week... won twice in Guilford's first win of the season, a 5-4 home triumph over Goucher... pulled out a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 win at first singles and teamed with Alec Chase for an 8-5 win at first doubles.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MEGAN CROOK, VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE
Crook, a senior from Alpharetta, Georgia, won a team-leading fourth consecutive match in singles and doubles against Bridgewater to help VWC improve to 6-1 overall and to 3-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. She is now 6-2 at No. 2 singles, 5-1 in dual matches, and 3-1 against conference foes. In doubles she has teamed with Imee Bautista to improved to 6-2 overall, 6-1 at the No. 1 position, and 3-1 in the league. 

Women's Tennis Honor Roll
Hilary Routon, GC Went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles in the Quakers' 1-2 week... pulled out a three-set win at fourth singles over Emory & Henry's Kandyce Baker in the Quakers' 5-4 road win... won in straight sets at fourth singles versus Peace and teamed with Mary Simpson for an 8-3 win at second doubles.
Caitlin Clare, RAND Clare recorded two singles wins from her number four position, and one doubles win from her number two position in a 2-1 week for the WildCats.
Kristin Nagy, RC Won at #1 singles and doubles against N.C. Wesleyan, garnering a 6-2, 4-6, 12-10 win in singles and an 8-6 win at doubles.
Meg Spalitta, W&L Spalitta led the Generals to a 3-1 week.  W&L defeated Roanoke, 9-0, but fell to Div. I James Madison University, 5-4.  However, the Blue and White bounced back with victories over Randolph-Macon (8-0) and third-ranked Carnegie Mellon (6-3).  Spalitta won all of her singles and doubles matches in two games last week.  She did not play in the win over Roanoke or the victory over Randolph-Macon.  In the loss to JMU, Spalitta won in singles, 6-3, 6-0 and in doubles, 8-3.  In the win over Carnegie Mellon, she won 6-2, 6-1 and in doubles, 9-7.

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
THOMAS BELL, BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE
Bell, a junior from Roanoke, Virginia, was voted Male Performer of the Meet at the Roanoke Maroons Invitational for his efforts in the weight events. Bell won the shot put with a distance of 12.44 meters and the discus with a throw 39.20 meters. Bell also placed fourth in the hammer with a distance of 37.84 meters. 

Men's Track & Field Honor Roll
Michael Allen, EMU Allen captured both the men's long jump and triple jump titles, setting a new EMU record in the triple jump with a distance of 14.17 meters.  The previous school record was set back in 2003 with a distance of 13.97 meters.  Allen then collected a first place medal in the long jump with a mark of 6.73 meters.
James Bell, LC Bell cleared 4.57 meters in the pole vault to place third in the event. He ran the 110-meter hurdles in 15.78 and the 400-meter hurdles in 58.56.
Andy Nagel, RC Won both the men's 110H and 400H at the Roanoke Invitational.  His time of 15.55 seconds in the 110H was a full second faster than the second place finisher.  He also finished almost 2 seconds ahead of 2nd in the 400H with an ODAC leading time of 56.15.
David Kidd, VWC Kidd emerged with two VWC records at the Wake Forest Open in the 800 and 1500, breaking his own records in each event.  He finished at 4:06.04 in the 15000, topping his previous best of 4:09.72, and placed 36th in a field of 124.  He  clocked a final time of 1:58.94 in the 800, bettering his previous time of 2:00.78.  He placed 43rd overall and was the only Division III runner in the top 45 in the event that included 107 competitors.
Jeff Giordano, W&L Giordano placed first among Division III athletes in the 200 meters (22.47) and the 100 meters (11.40).

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD OF THE WEEK
SARAH WITT, ROANOKE COLLEGE
Witt, a freshman from Staunton River, ran an ODAC leading 15.20 in the 100H to place 1st overall. This is the 2nd fastest time in school history. She also won the 400H in 71 seconds. She placed 14th overall in the javelin. 

Women's Track & Field Honor Roll
Tara Altizer, EMU Altizer captured the women's high jump title with a height of 1.53 meters, the beginning of another solid day for the senior.  Altizer came in fourth in the women's long jump (5.00 meters), placing her fourth all-time in the EMU record books, and was 10th in the women's 100 meter dash (13.16).  Altizer also registered a second place showing in the women's 200 meter dash, coming in with a time of 27.06, again ranking her fourth on the EMU all-time list and giving her a new personal record.
Jessica Gibbs, LC Gibbs recorded her personal best in the long jump, clearing 5.35 meters and was part of the LC 4x400-meter relay team that took second, beating several Division II teams.
Kelly Fauth, VWC Fauth was the fourth highest Division III runner in the 800 meter run at the Wake Forest Open, where she wiped out the VWC record set by Ashley Roane in 2007.  Fauth finished in a time of 2:31.76, four seconds better than the existing Marlin record of 2:35.17.
Grace Andrews, W&L Andrews placed second among Division III competitors in the hammer throw with a school-record toss of 32.58 meters.
