Lynchburg Names Cardea New Equestrian Head Coach

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The Lynchburg College athletic department has announced the hiring of Erin Cardea as its new equestrian coach for the 2014-15 school year.

Cardea brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Lynchburg. She most recently served as the visiting riding instructor at Bender Horse Sport in Omaha, Nebraska in addition to holding the same position at Loftmar Stables in Bowie, Maryland. She has served as the Riding Program Director for the Ras Tanura Ranch Association in Saudi Arabia and has been training horses and instructing riders continually since 2002.

"We are very thankful to be able to add Erin to the Lynchburg College athletics family," said Jon Waters, LC Director of Athletics. "She has been fortunate to have a wide variety of experiences within the horse world which will serve our students and program well."

Cardea was the head coach of the IHSA team at the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 2006-09 as well as serving as the assistant to five-time Olympic show jumper Anne Kursinski from 2009-10.

She holds Master Instructor and Assistant Clinic Instructor certifications from the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA). In addition to those certifications, Cardea is qualified in Stage 2 & Preliminary Teaching Test (PTT) by the British Horse Society (BHS).

Cardea graduated with a bachelor's in equestrian science from William Woods University in 2001. She is in her final year of the master's of equine science program at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
