Ferrum Names Hope as Field Hockey Head Coach

FERRUM, Va. --- Director of Athletics John Sutyak has announced the hiring of Chardonnay Hope as Head Field Hockey Coach at Ferrum College.

Hope comes to Ferrum from Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania, where she served the past year as Assistant Field Hockey Coach. She also worked as a Family Service Specialist for the state of Delaware and has served as goalkeeping coach for the Delaware Sharks Field Hockey Club.

"We are very excited to welcome Chardonnay to the Ferrum College family," stated Sutyak. "Chardonnay's experience as a coach at the NCAA Division III and Division II levels will serve us well as we develop our student-athlete leaders off the field and compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on the field."

At Haverford, Hope was a member of the staff that led the Fords to a 13-5 record and a first round game in the Centennial Conference playoffs.  Prior to Haverford, she served as Assistant Field Hockey Coach at Widener University from 2020-21 and as Assistant Field Hockey Coach at Washington College from 2019-20. In both positions, she helped the head coach with recruiting, practice and game preparation while focusing on goalkeeper position training.

Hope earned All-America Second Team honors as a goalkeeper at Kutztown University in 2017. She also was a Women in Sports Foundation Tara Vanderveer Grant recipient in 2021.

"I am so grateful to be named the next head field hockey coach at Ferrum," said Hope. "I would like to thank John Sutyak and the rest of the search community for trusting my vision and selecting me for this incredible opportunity. I am looking forward to working with the student-athletes at Ferrum! There is much room for growth, and I am excited to take on the task."

Hope earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Kutztown in 2018, and her Master of Science degree in Management from Wilmington University (Del.) in 2021. She begins work at Ferrum on April 18.
