  • GC's Ratner Named to All-Nicklaus Team
    June 29, 2012
    Guilford's Noah Ratner was one of 24 students named to the 2012 All-Nicklaus Team, presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America to the nation's top golfers. He joins former teammate Peter Latimer '10 as GC selections to the annual all-star team comprised of golfers from NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, the NAIA and the NJCAA.
  • Hearn to Lead VWC Golf Program

    Virginia Wesleyan golf welcomes Bryan Hearn as its new head coach leading into the 2012-13 academic year. Hearn, a graduate of Old Dominion University, has been a golf pro in the Hampton Roads area for the last six years. He'll be charged with rebuilding a program that returns just two players from the 2011-12 season.
  • ODAC Names Jopson, Berkley Winners

    A pair of Maroons earned the conference's top awards in a vote of the ODAC Board of Directors at the annual league meetings last week. Roanoke College women's track athlete Sarah Witt was recognized as the Marge Berkley Award winner, while golfer Brandon Ketron was tabbed the winner of the Doc Jopson Award.
  • GC's Ratner Wins Jack Nicklaus Award

    Guilford golfer Noah Ratner was one of five NCAA student-athletes honored with the Jack Nicklaus Award as the nation's top golfers at each level of NCAA competition (D-I, II, III, NAIA, NJCAA). Ratner, the first Quaker to earn the honor, received his accolade at the recently completed The Memorial golf tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
  • Eberly Tabbed to Run EMU Golf Programs

    EMU announced the hiring of Wendell Eberly as the school’s first-ever head golf coach. Eberly, also an alumnus and former women’s basketball coach, will head both the men’s and women’s golf teams, both of which will be varsity sports for the first time this fall. Eberly recently retired after the 28 years as the recreation department director with Rockingham County.
  • Quakers Place 11th at Golf Championships

    Guilford's Noah Ratner (pictured) earned his second straight PING NCAA Division III First-Team All-America honor Friday at the NCAA D-III Championships at Mission Inn Resort and Club. He received his award from the Golf Coaches Association of America after placing a team-high 12th among 210 contestants. GC was 11th overall in the team standings.
  • GC Golf Sits in 11th After Three Rounds

    GC shot 306 and slipped to 11th place after Thursday's third round of the 41-team NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at the Mission Inn Resort. The Quakers, who started the day in a share of third place in the 41-team field, fell 34 strokes behind third-ranked Oglethorpe.
  • NCAA Announces Golf Teams, Individuals

    The NCAA released the field of teams and individual players for the 2012 NCAA Division III Golf Tournament on Tuesday. Guilford, winners of the ODAC's automatic bid, will be the lone league team competing among the 41-team field. Five individuals were also selected to even out the 210-man tournament set, including Hampden-Sydney's Rick O'Connell.
  • Guilford's Ratner Heads ODAC Golf Awards

    GC's Noah Ratner was named the ODAC Golfer of the Year on Monday evening. He was joined by Corey Maggard,as the Jack Jensen Coach of the Year. R-MC's Kyle Fuller was tabbed ODAC Rookie of the Year. RC's Adam Skaff was selected as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete, and fellow Maroon Brandon Ketron received the Ted Keller Sportsmanship Award.
  • GC Wins 12th ODAC Golf Championship

    Guilford claimed its second-straight and 12th overall ODAC golf championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Bay Creek golf course. GC, ranked second in the country, shot a 596 two round total (296-300) to finish 20-over-par, 19 strokes clear of second place Roanoke (310-305--615). W&L finished in third place with a 622 two round total (315-307).
  • Golf Heads to Bay Creek for Championship

    The ODAC golf squads hit the links this weekend to determine the 2012 championship held at Bay Creek Resort in Cape Charles, Va. This year marks the fifth consecutive year the championship has been contested on Bay Creek’s 6,987-yard Palmer Course. Championship play starts on Sunday, April 22. The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday.
  • Golf Postponed and Shortened by Rain

    Inclement throughout the state has caused shuffling of ODAC schedules over the past week. That unfortunately is also the case with the ODAC Golf Championship, which was set to begin today. Rain in the Cape Charles, Va.-area has forced the postponement of the 1st round and shortening of the tournament to 36 holes.

  • EMU Adds Men's and Women's Golf

    Eastern Mennonite University has announced that it will be adding men’s and women’s golf programs, starting with the 2012-13 season. Both men and women will compete as sponsored ODAC sports, with the conference also adding the women’s sport next fall.

  • GC's Ratner Wins NCAA D-III Preview

    Guilford'sNoah Ratner earned his first college medalist honor Tuesday at the Gordin Classic-NCAA Division III Preview. Playing the Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon Course, Ratner shot one-under-par 71 to finish with a 54-hole 213, three strokes better than Methodist University's Mike Wesko (216) in the 92-man field. He was the only golfer under par for the tournament.

  • Bridgewater Wins Tom Kinder Memorial

    Bridgewater fired rounds of 291 and 292 to claim the 2011 Tom Kinder Memorial by 10 strokes over Washington and Lee. Seven of the ODAC's eight golf-sponsoring schools participated in the event. Hampden-Sydney's Rick O'Connell took the individual crown by shooting six-under par, two shots clear of BC's John Phillips.
