ODAC Golfers of the Week

FOREST, Va. --- Week seven of the ODAC season concluded with a bevy of golf tournaments for league players. Teams competed in five total events led by national fields for both the men and women at the Golfweek Division III Invitational in Sandestin, Fla. There was also dual action at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Catholic University, and the men's edition of the VSGA Intercollegiate was held in Suffolk.

This week's ODAC Golfers of the Week both competed among the national fields at their respective Golfweek Division III Invitationals. Lynchburg first-year Alan Van Asch posted a top-10 finish in the men's event at the Raven Golf Club, while Washington and Lee sophomore Laetitia Roegner did the same at the Baytowne Golf Club.

Below are entries for both ODAC Golfers of the Week.  Click on the associated links to see that sport's weekly honor roll. Most weeks this fall, the following schedule will be used for awards reporting:

  • Sundays: football (thru 11/13/22)
  • Mondays: field hockey, soccer, swimming, volleyball, wrestling (when it begins)
  • Tuesdays: cross country
  • Wednesday: golf

MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Van Asch, a first-year from Raleigh, N.C., picks up his first career ODAC weekly award after a top-10 showing in a 24-team national field at the Golfweek Division III Invitational hosted by the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Fla. Van Asch tied for ninth overall at 1-over par 214 following three rounds on the par-71 track set to 6,651 yards. He opened and closed the event with rounds of 3-over 74. In between, he carded a 5-under 66 to tie for the second-lowest round of the tournament with two other players. He is the third golfer in Lynchburg history to post a round of 66 with only two rounds of 65 better in the Hornets' record book. In tying for ninth out 119 players, Van Ash, who is fifth in the ODAC with a 72.8 per-round average, helped Lynchburg to 12th in a 24-team table at 33-over 885 (308-280-297). That included a 4-under 280 in round two, tied for the third-best single round in program history.

WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Laetitia Roegner | Washington and Lee | So.
Roegner, a sophomore from Greenwich, Conn., put together a strong three-round effort at Baytowne Golf Club in Sandesting, Fla., with her first top-10 finish of the season in a national field at the Golfweek Division III Invitational. Roegner placed solo seventh at 4-over par 220 following 54 holes on the par-72 layout set to 5,601 yards. She opened with a 1-over 73 before bringing herself back to even-par for the tournament a 1-under 71 in round two, her lowest 18-hole score of the season. She capped the event with a 4-over 76 in round three. Roegner, who is second in the ODAC with a 75.9 per-round average, helped Washington and Lee to fifth in a 24-team table at 45-over 909 (305-298-306). The Generals, ranked sixth in Division III by Golfstat, were topped only by four other teams in the top-10: Emory University (#1), Washington-St. Louis (#4), Carnegie Mellon (#7), Methodist (#9).
