ODAC Players of the Week: February 1

Weather Thins Out Athlete Schedules

SALEM, Va. --- For the second time this winter, the weather played a major role in the fate of the ODAC's indoor athletic offerings as basketball games, swim meets and indoor track invitationals were either postponed or cancelled across the region.  Nevertheless, several ODAC athletes performed well despite the road-covering snowfalls and frigid temperatures.

Indoor track continued to gear up towards its championship at the end of the month as the pentathlon (women) and heptathlon (men) became members of the event schedules.  On the women's side, Lynchburg's Jessica Gibbs provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships by winning the pentathlon by 34 points (3,064 total points).  For the men, Washington and Lee's Tyler Grant was the first D-III athlete in the heptathlon rankings with a school-record 4,020 points.

In men's basketball, Tyler Sanborn helped carry Guilford to a pair of wins over Roanoke and #9 Randolph-Macon.  Sanborn notched a career-high 29 points at RC, adding 18 rebounds.  He followed that with 26 points and 13 boards against the Yellow Jackets.  He shot 75.9-percent for the week.

On the women's side, Jordan Burkholder helped Bridgewater to a pair of conference wins, including the Eagles first victory at Randolph-Macon since 2004.  In the early game, she tallied a game-high 17 points in a 75-42 win over Virginia Wesleyan at home.  She followed that with a season-high 28 points at R-MC, 19 of which coming in the second half when the Jackets mounted a comeback.
