James Winkey, Virginia Wesleyan, Freshman

Winkey, a freshman from Fredericksburg, Va., set a pair of school records in his first college outing at the CNU Holiday Open.  Winkey finished 14th overall and was the second-highest placed NCAA Division III competitor in the high jump as he cleared 1.85 meters (6' 0.75"), breaking the record of 5'10" set by James Klink in 2005 and tied by David Paco in 2008.  That mark is the second-best in the ODAC this season.  Winkey also set the VWC long jump record on his very first leap as a Marlin.  He hurdled himself 6.63 meters (21' 9") to place 12th overall and first among D-III athletes.  His effort broke the record of 21' 6.75" set by Okechi Hamilton in 2007.  Winkey's jump is second longest in the ODAC this season.
