2015-16 Indoor Track Athletes of the Week

  • Amber Celen, Bridgewater, So., Sprints
    February 22, 2016
    Celen, a sophomore from Townsend, Del., broke a pair of ODAC sprint records that had stood for nearly eight years. At the UCS Invitational, Celen finished eighth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 0:07.75, breaking the record held by Roanoke's Robin Yerkes by 0.01 seconds. She also snapped Yerkes' record of 0:25.31 in the 200-meter dash with a time of 0:25.23. Both of Celen's marks are tops in the ODAC this season. Her 200m time ranks second in NCAA Division III, while her 60m time chimes in 11th.
  • Kim Alfaro, Lynchburg, Sr., Throws
    February 22, 2016
    Alfaro, a senior from Toms River, N.J., continues to throw the weight at a high level. She tossed that apparatus 15.89 meters at the VT Challenge, good enough for a 10th-place finish in the mixed field. That throw is bettered only by her previous ODAC-best toss of 16.16 meters.
  • Sam Gunther, Bridgewater, Sr., Mid-Distance
    February 22, 2016
    Gunther, a senior from Chesterfield, Va., put together a strong showing at the UCS Invitational. He placed seventh overall on the way to setting a new school-record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.15. That time is tops in the ODAC by nearly 2.5-seconds and ranks 19th in NCAA Division III. Gunther also helped his teammates to another Bridgewater record in the 4x400-meter relay with a second-place time of 3:25.12. That mark ranks second in the ODAC.
  • Evan Truman, Lynchburg, Jr., Jumps/Sprints
    February 22, 2016
    Truman, a junior from Richmond, Va., re-upped on his previous long jump performances, increasing his grasp on the ODAC's best mark after competing at the Virginia Tech Challenge. His leap of 6.88 meters is 0.11 meters clear of the next closest ODAC competitor. It ranked seventh overall at the VT Challenge and currently sits 23rd in NCAA Division III. Truman also ran in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 0:23.15.
  • Dana Lee, Washington and Lee, Jr., Sprints/Jumps
    February 15, 2016
    Lee, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., continues to shine during the indoor campaign. Lee won three events and broke two school records at the Sweetheart Multi-Mix Madness hosted by Navy. She won the 60-meter dash in a W&L record time of 7.94. It broke her own 60m record of 8.06. Lee won the 400-meter dash in a time of 0:57.50. Since the race was held on a 200-meter banked track, any time in a race at or over 200m has to be converted to a 200m flat track time for W&L record keeping purposes. Lee's converted time was 0:58.27, which broke the school record of 0:58.83 set by Janey Fugate in 2015. Lee also won the long jump with a leap of 5.53m (18'01.75"). Lee's 60m time is second in the ODAC by 0.01 seconds, while her 400m mark now tops the conference charts. Her leap of 5.53m in the long jump is second only to her own top season-best mark (5.59m).
  • Kim Alfaro, Lynchburg, Sr., Throws
    February 15, 2016
    Alfaro, a senior from Toms River, N.J., put together a strong showing in the weight throw at the Liberty University Quad. She heaved the apparatus 15.50 meters, which would rank inside the ODAC's top-three. She currently owns the league's best mark at 16.16 meters.
  • Andrew Osborne, Lynchburg, Jr., Mid-Distance
    February 15, 2016
    Osborne, a junior from Yorktown, Va., competed twice at the Liberty University Quad. He finished fifth in the mile run with at ime of 4:27.80, which ranks sixth in the ODAC. He also added a time of 2:05.56 to place 12th in the 800-meter run.
  • Evan Truman, Lynchburg, Jr., Jumps/Sprints
    February 15, 2016
    Truman, a junior from Richmond, Va., won the long jump at the Liberty University Quad over the weekend. He posted a mark of 6.55 meters, which would rank inside the ODAC's top-five. He already owns the conference's best jump of the seaosn at 6.87 meters. Truman also competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing fourth at 0:07.30.
  • Hannah Chappell-Dick, Eastern Mennonite, Sr., Mid-Distance
    February 08, 2016
    Chappell-Dick, a senior from Bluffton, Ohio, picks up her second straight weekly honor after posting a national top-five time for in yet another event. Aftern establishing NCAA Division III's 10th-best time in the 800-meter run a week ago, Chappell-Dick bettered that mark by nearly three seconds in winning the event at the Crusader Challenge. Her new school-record time now sits at 2:13.42, just 0.01 seconds faster than her own previous EMU standard. It ranks fourth in the country. Chappell-Dick also ran a leg of the fourth place 4x400-meter relay team that chimed in at 4:15.34.
  • Dana Lee, Washington and Lee, Jr., Jumps/Sprints
    February 08, 2016
    Lee, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., posted national top-20 marks in a pair of events at the Vince Brown Invitational. In the long jump, she bettered her own ODAC top mark with a leap of 5.59 meters. That was third overall and ranks fifth in NCAA Division III. On the track, Lee set a new Washington and Lee record with a third place time of 0:25.97. It also tops the ODAC seasonal charts. Lee completed her efforts by running the anchor leg of the Generals' second placed 4x400-meter relay team, which tops the conference charts at 4:07.58.
  • Alec Thibodeaux, Eastern Mennonite, Jr., Mid-Distance/Distance
    February 08, 2016
    Thibodeaux, a junior from Mount Sidney, Va., put his name on two more EMU records by winning both the mile run and 800-meter run at the Crusader Challenge. Thibodeaux posted an ODAC-best time of 4:19.61 in the mile, which also ranks 47th in NCAA Division III. He won that race by six-seconds over the next closest competitor. He added another ODAC top-five mark in the 800-meter run at 1:59.24.
  • Darin Council, Bridgewater, Jr., Jumps/Throws

    Council, a junior from Stafford, Va., continued his run of strong outings at the Crusader Challenge. Council bettered his own ODAC top mark in the triple jump, finishing in the sand 14.01 meters from where he started to win the event. That mark also sits 16th in NCAA Division III ranks. Council also led the Eagles efforts in the shot put, tossing the apparatus 12.49 meters to place 12th in the event.
  • Hannah Chappell-Dick, Eastern Mennonite, Sr., Mid-Distance

    Chappell-Dick, a senior from Bluffton, Ohio, posted a pair of nationally 10th-ranked times this weekend at the Camel City Invitational hosted at JDL Fast Track. Chappell-Dick was fifth overall and sits fourth in NCAA Division III in the mile run after stopping the watches with an ODAC season-best time of 5:02.05. Chappell-Dick now sits 10th nationally in the 800-meter run after posting a seventh-place time of 2:16.02 in the multi-divisional meet. That time also tops the conference charts. She also competed on the Royals' distance medley relay team, helping EMU to a 12th place time of 13:42.21.
  • Kim Alfaro, Lynchburg, Sr., Throws

    Alfaro, a senior from Toms River, N.J., competed for the first time in 2016 and promptly took over the top spot in the ODAC in the weight throw. Her heave of 16.16 meters at the Darius Dixon Memorial not only topped the Division II, III and unattached ranks at the Liberty University-hosted meet, but came up just 0.02 meters short of tying her own ODAC record set last season. That throw is also 1.58 meters better than the next best toss in the conference this year.
  • Anthony Quinn, Randolph, Jr., Hurdles
    February 01, 2016
    Quinn, a junior from Pomona, Calif., posted a pair of school record-setting individual performances at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty University. Quinn was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a new ODAC season-best time of 0:08.52. That mark is just 0.19-seconds shy of the ODAC record, while also ranking 47th in the country. Quinn then placed third overall and tops among D-III athletes in the 200-meter dash in 0:23.03. That time sits third on the conference season chart.
  • Jeremy Heizer, Eastern Mennonite, Sr., Throws

    Heizer, a senior from Staunton, Va., put together a strong performance at the Camel City Invitational at JDL Fast Track. He established the ODAC's top mark in the weight throw with a toss of 14.87 meters to place 10th overall in the event. It also improved upon his second all-time positioning at Eastern Mennonite. Heizer also finished 12th in the shot put with a heave of 14.18 meters, second in the ODAC only to his previous season-best mark (14.89m).
  • Marissa Coombs, Virginia Wesleyan, So., Mid-Distance

    Coombs, a sophomore from Newton, N.J., competed twice and registered an event-win at the multi-divisional Captains Invitational. She topped a field of 12 runners -- only four of which came from NCAA Division III ranks -- in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.65. That marks sits atop the ODAC season rankings thru this weekend. Coombs also ran the anchor leg of the Marlins distance medley relay team, which finished second in 13:00.05.
  • Michelle Yates, Virginia Wesleyan, So., Throws

    Yates, a sophomore from Berryville, Va., competed in both the shot put and weight throw at the multi-divisional Captains Invitational. There was just one NCAA Division I athlete between her and first place in the shot put as she heaved the apparatus 11.58 meters for a new personal-best and the ODAC's top mark so far this season. She added a 14th place showing in the weight throw at 10.25 meters.
  • Trey White, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., Sprints

    White, a junior from Spotsylvania, Va., put together a pair of strong sprint showings and competed in a relay at the multi-divisional Captain's Invitational. White placed fourth overall in the 200-meter dash at 0:23.13, which ranks third in the ODAC. His time of 0:51.26 in the 400-meter dash chimed in seventh and ranks second on the conference list. White also ran the anchor leg of the 4x200-meter relay to help VWC finish fifth place in 1:33.65.
  • Cody Below, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., Heptathlon

    Below, a senior from Norfolk, Va., put together a 3,100-point showing in the heptathlon at the multi-divisional Captains Invitational. He chimed in fourth in the shot put at 10.20 meters and matched that placing in the pole vault by clearing 3.25 meters for his best two finishes in the seven-event discipline. He posted time of 0:08.08 in the 60-meter dash to place 12th and was 10th in the long jump at 4.96 meters. He finished eighth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:14.53, and was 11th in the 60-meter hurldes in 0:11.19. He also cleared 1.52 meters in the high jump to place ninth.

    Celen, a sophomore from Townsend, Del., stamped her name atop two events and sits third in one other individual discipline after competing at both the Father Diamond Invitational and CNU Triangular over the past two weeks. She was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the 200-meter dash at the Father Diamond, posting an ODAC top-time of 0:26.20 to place 15th overall. She was also 15th in the 60-meter dash in 0:07.93, which also sits atop the conference lists. At CNU, Celen finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in 0:10.07, which ranks third in the ODAC. She also helped BC win the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:20.73.
  • Dana Lee, Washington and Lee, Jr., Jumps/Sprints
    January 18, 2016
    Lee, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., picked up in 2016 right where she left off in 2015 with her second weekly honor. Lee won the long jump with an ODAC season-best 5.33-meter leap. That also ranks as the 14th-longest jump in NCAA Division III so far this season. She added a third-place finish in the triple jump at 10.52 meters, an event in which she already owns the ODAC's best mark (11.00m). Lee added a second place showing in the 400-meter dash (1:00.82) and third place finish in the 200-meter dash (0:26.91) to her meet workload. Those times rank second and third in the ODAC, respectively.
  • Cameron Thompson, Roanoke, Jr., Sprints
    January 18, 2016
    Thompson, a junior from McLean, Va., put together a strong showing at the Marietta Open to kickoff the 2016 season. Thompson set a new school-record in winning the 200-meter dash in 0:22.61. That time also ranks seventh in NCAA Division III and is the top time in the ODAC so far this season. Thompson addeda fifth place showing in the 400-meter dash in 0:54.03.
  • Davis Turner, Washington and Lee, Jr., Jumps

    Turner, a junior from East Point, Ga., has put together the top two performances in the men's high jump in the early portions of the indoor season. This past weekend at the Marietta Open, Turner cleared 1.92 meters to finish second overall. That height is second only in the ODAC ranks to his previous jump to close 2015 at 1.94 meters. Turner also competed in three track events at Marietta, running in 55-meter (30th - 7.03) and 200-meter (34th - 25.26) dashes. He helped W&L to sixth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:42.23).
  • Lexie Janney, Roanoke, Sr., Sprints

    Janney, a senior from Daleville, Va., posted the ODAC's fastest times in a pair of events at the JDL College Kickoff Classic. She was the top NCAA Division III finisher in both the 60-meter dash and the 400-meter dash, stopping the watches in 0:08.04 and 1:00.48, respectively. She also competed in the 300-meter dash, placing 29th overall and first D-III with a time of 0:43.21.
  • Dana Lee, Washington and Lee, Jr., Jumps/Sprints

    Lee, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., put together a banner weekend thru five events at the Liberty Kickoff, setting a new Generals record in the triple jump along the way. He leap of 11.00 meters was second overall and first among NCAA Division III competition. It's also third in the country thru the opening weekend. She was the top D-III finisher and again second overall in the long at 5.19m. She also ran in a pair of events, finishing as the second D-III competitor in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes in 0:08.15 and 0:27.46, respectively. Lee helped her teammates finish fourth overall and first D-III in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:21.02.
  • Alec Thibodeaux, Eastern Mennonite, Jr., Distance

    Thibodeaux, a junior from Mount Sidney, Va., kicked off the 2015-16 campaign with a pair of strong distance runs at the CNU Holiday Open. Thibodeaux snapped a pair of school records in placing seventh overall in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter races. He finished the 3,000m first among NCAA Division III competition in 8:49.20. He was second D-III i nthe 5,000m at 15:25.53. Both times stand tops in the ODAC following the first weekend of competition.
  • Patrick Robertson, Washington and Lee, Jr., Throws

    Robertson, a junior from Norfolk, Va., started off the season with a strong showing in the throws at the Liberty Kickoff. Robertson set a new personal collegiate-best in the weight throw with a heavee of 14.77 meters, which stands as the top mark in the ODAC after the opening weekend. That throw was fourth overall and first among NCAA Division III athletes in the meet. Robertson also competed in the shot put, placing sixth overall and third D-III with a toss of 13.00 meters.
