League to Broadcast Select Men and Women's Games on the Internet
SALEM, Va. --- Following a very successful fall
football campaign, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) will
continue its offering of video webcasts available on the Internet
by expanding the service to men and women's basketball.
Tipping-off the ODAC's schedule of broadcasts will be the first of
two highly anticipated men's basketball matchups between
Hampden-Sydney College and Guilford College on Wednesday, January
9, at Guilford. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
Penn Atlantic Inc. will again be providing the ODAC with its
service to stream audio and video across the Internet. All
scheduled ODAC games can be accessed from Penn Atlantic's game
schedule (www.pennatlantic.com) as the
game date approaches.
Guilford and Hampden-Sydney enter the contest firing on
all-cylinders following a couple brief hiccups early in the
season. Following an early loss to Greensboro in their second
game of the season, head coach Tom Palombo's Quakers (6-2, 1-0
ODAC) have won five of their past six games. Ben Strong, the
reigning national and ODAC Player of the Year, has scored at least
20 points in all but one game this season including a season-high
35 points at N.C. Wesleyan in early December. The 6-11 senior
center has recorded double-doubles in seven of the squad's eight
games played including each of the past five outings. Aside
from leading the conference in scoring (24.8 ppg), he and fellow
big man Tyler Sanborn sit atop the ODAC rebound rankings at 11.8
and 9.8 boards per game, respectively. Guard Clay Henson, who
recently scored a career-best 29 points by tying a school-record
with nine three-pointers against Averett, sits 10th in
the league in scoring at 14.5 points per game.
Hampden-Sydney features a starting line-up that rivals most in the
NCAA. The reigning ODAC champions are averaging 82.2 points
per game (second in the ODAC) with nearly 60 of those points coming
from the quartet of Turner King, Troy Kaase, Drew Prehmus and Tyler
Murray. King, the reigning ODAC Player of the Week, sits
second in the league in scoring at 21.6 points per game. The
sophomore lefty has upped the ante from a solid freshman campaign,
recently setting a new career-high with 36 points against
Greensboro. While he has the ability to take the ball to the
rim, King has connected on four or more three-pointers in three
different games this season. Kaase, a former All-ODAC first
team selection, has returned from injury to spark the Tigers'
interior play. He's averaging 15.5 points and 7.1 rebounds
per contest. Prehmus (13.5 ppg) and Murray (9.1 ppg) are "do
it all" players for head coach Bubba Smith's squad. Both hit
the boards hard (11.5 rpg. between the two) and play solid
all-around defense. Prehmus leads the squad in long-distance
field goals (23-of-56 from 3-pt.).
Listed below is the tentative schedule of men and women's
