  • ODAC Partnership with V-Foundation and Kay Yow Cancer Fund Remains Strong
    April 07, 2020
    Prior to the 2019-20 Division III basketball seasons, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced a continued partnership with the V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for supporting cancer research. For the third consecutive year, the ODAC men’s and women’s basketball programs spearheaded initiatives on their respective campuses in conjunction with select home games. Through those events, conference schools generated $8,900 of charitable donations to support both organizations, as well as a few other subsidiaries and causes. In the first three years of the partnership, more than $22,000 has been raised.

    Randolph-Macon College playmaker Buzz Anthony is an All-American two times over as he leads the ODAC's contingent of postseason men's basketball awards. Anthony was tabbed a Second Team All-American by both D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

    Junior Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) recorded his sixth career double-double with 25 points and 13 assists as the No. 3 Randolph-Macon men's basketball team outlasted TCNJ 85-71 in the second round of the 2020 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday evening.

    Junior Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) put up 21 points, while freshman Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds, as the No. 3 Randolph-Macon men's basketball team downed Wesley 81-69 in the first round of the 2020 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship on Friday evening.

    Randolph-Macon College took the lead with 14:09 to play in the first half and never relinquished control as the nationally fifth-ranked and ODAC top-seeded Yellow Jackets posted a 72-57 victory over #16 and second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University in Salem on Sunday afternoon.
  • Three Repeat Major Honors Headline All-ODAC Men's Basketball Awards

    Three of the conference's major awards feature identical individuals from a season ago in the ODAC's announcement of the 2019-20 All-ODAC Men's Basketball awards on Wednesday afternoon. Randolph-Macon College guard Buzz Anthony and Yellow Jackets mentor Josh Merkel repeat as the Kurt Axe Player of the Year and Bob Johnson Coach of the Year, respectively. This is the third season for Merkel as the league's top coach, while Anthony doubles as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Washington and Lee University forward Curtis Mitchell earned ODAC Defensive Player of the Year recognition for a second straight season. R-MC forward Miles Mallory was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year.

  • ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament | 10-Team Field Determined

    The same logo appears at the top of the ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament field for the third straight season as Randolph-Macon College enters the conference postseason with the #1 billing. The Yellow Jackets are one of six squads to earn a bye thru the first round to the quarterfinals in Salem, Va., with the conference's 10-team format set to begin on campus on Tuesday.

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference is proud to continue its association with the V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for the third consecutive year.  As has been done for the two previous seasons, each of the basketball-sponsoring member institutions will highlight a game associated with the V Foundation, Play4Kay, or an associated focus for one of its home games.  The ODAC looks to build upon the momentum of the previous two years.

    A few things jump out at you when reviewing the 2019-20 ODAC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll. The most telling observation? It is anybody's guess how this season will shake out. Just five points separate the top-three teams from each and three ties dot one of the most varied men's hoops surveys in recent memory. Defending champion Guilford College tops the chart with 136 points powered by six first place votes from the league's head coaches. Virginia Wesleyan University and Randolph-Macon College are locked in second with 131 markers each. The Marlins secured four top nods, while the Yellow Jackets corralled the remaining three. Roanoke College stands alone in fourth with 107 tallies, but yet another tie rounds out the top-six as the University of Lynchburg and Washington and Lee University each earned 97 points.
