2022-23 ODAC Swimmers of the Week

  • Dalton Jobe, Washington and Lee, Fy.
    January 30, 2023
    Jobe, a first-year from Henrico, Va., picks up his fifth ODAC weekly award of the season after helping Washington and Lee to a 177-85 triumph over VMI in the Generals final tune-up before the ODAC Championships. Jobe won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.80, second-best in the ODAC to his own league-fastest mark of 1:41.47. He also won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.82, which would also be a top-four mark in the conference. He is currently second in the 200-IM at 1:54.37. Jobe then joined teammates Charles Byars, Harrison Cerone, and Matt Fritz in winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:34.44. Jobe posted a 50-free split of 0:21.57.
  • Savy Borroughs, Lynchburg, So.
    January 30, 2023
    Borroughs, a sophomore from Stoughton, Wis., was quick in the water in helping Lynchburg close its regular season meet schedule with a 179-78 victory over Southern Virginia. Borroughs posted three of the fastest 50-yard freestyle splits of the season, including a 0:24.21 to win the event. That time ranks third in the ODAC this year. She also posted 50-yard splits of 0:24.11 and 0:24.37 in two relay wins for the Hornets. She joined teammates Lindsey Hair, Delaney Kennedy, and Emma Russell in winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:53.25. She swam third with teammates Corrin Ford, Claire Galloway, and Sophia Schorr in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.82. Borroughs won a second individual event, stopping the watches first in the 100-yard freestyle in 0:54.79. She already ranks third in the conference in that event at 0:53.56.
  • Matt Fritz, Washington and Lee, So.
    January 23, 2023
    Fritz, a sophomore from Reston, Va., earns his first ODAC weekly award of the season after winning a pair of individual events and joining one victorious relay in Washington and Lee's 197-64 team triumph at Randolph-Macon. Fritz won the 100-yard breaststroke with a personal season-best time of 1:00.41, which slots seventh in the ODAC table. He also claimed gold in the 100-yard butterfly in 0:51.94, which was just 0.21 seconds off his best time this year, which currently ranks second in the league standings. Fritz swam third on the Generals "A" 200-yard medley relay squad. He joined teammates Charles Byars, Todd Echols, and Baxter Smelzer in posting a winning time of 1:35.17, less than a second off their ODAC season-best time. Fritz's sister, Emily, is a senior on the Randolph-Macon women's swimming team and is this week's ODAC Women's Swimmer of the Week.

    Fritz, a senior from Reston, Va., swam four times in the Yellow Jackets showdown with Washington and Lee (L, 160-101) and claimed two individual event victories along with a fourth-place showing in a third indy event and a third place finish in a relay. Fritz won the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events with times of 1:10.55 and 2:30.96. She is already #1 in the ODAC in the shorter distance (1:05.87) and fourth (2:25.17) in the longer discipline. Her time in the 200-breaststroke against W&L would still appear inside the conference's top-10. Fritz added a fourth place finish in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:21.68. She also took part in one relay, joining teammates Kelsey James, Melina Christou, and Katelyn Vieni on a time of 1:53.90. Fritz's brother, Matt, is a sophomore on the Washington and Lee men's swimming team and is this week's ODAC Men's Swimmer of the Week.
  • Colton Schnars, Lynchburg, Gr.
    January 16, 2023
    Schnars, a graduate student from Bellefonte, Pa., won a pair of individual events and helped his Lynchburg teammates to first and second place showings in two relays in the Hornets split of a tri-meet with Roanoke (W, 143-119) and Division II member Milligan (L, 168-94). The win for Lynchburg over Roanoke marked the first triumph for the Hornets over the Maroons in the program's four-year history. Schnars set Lynchburg school records in winning both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, doing so as the first off-taper records since January 2020. He posted a time of 21.09 seconds in the 50-free to take over the top spot in the ODAC. He won the 100-free with a time of 46.94 seconds, the fourth-fastest in the conference. Schnars joined teammates Tyler Caten, Chris Jennings, and Will Kasemeyer in winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:35.85, just off their already ODAC third-best mark (1:35.55). Schnars, Caten, and Jennings were joined by Parker Hayungs in the 400-yard freestyle relay, in which they finished second at 3:15.82. In addition to his new top 50-free time, Schnars is the owner of the ODAC's #1 time in the 100-yard backstroke (51.21) and sits second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.98) from previous meets.
  • Sophia Rollo, Washington and Lee, Jr.,
    January 16, 2023
    Rollo, a junior from Haddonfield, N.J., picks up her first weekly award of the season after helping nationally 20th-ranked Washington and Lee defeat #21 Gettysburg College, 162-100. Rollo won twice individually and participated in a relay victory as part of a personal four-event outing. She won the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events with times of 0:59.78 and 2:08.84, respectively. Both marks are just off her previous season-best times and would rank inside the ODAC's posted top-five. Rollo added a second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.75. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Rollo anchored the team of Myla Rice, Bella Tarbet, and Tess Deyerle, which won the event in 1:39.90. From previous meets, Rollo is the ODAC leader in the 200-yard IM (2:08.46) and is second in the 100-yard (57.58) and 200-yard (2:05.01) backstroke events.
  • Ben Pastva, Randolph-Macon, Jr.
    January 09, 2023
    Pastva, a junior from Fairfax, Va., put together a pair of strong performances to kickoff the Yellow Jackets 2023 winter/spring slate. In a 122-83 team loss to Bridgewater, Pastva posted a pair of individual event victories and helped Randolph-Macon finish second in one relay. He won the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events with times of 0:24.26 and 0:56.12. Those convert to 0:21.68 and 0:50.15, respectively, which would slot fourth and 30th in the ODAC. He already leads the ODAC in the 50-free (21.34) from a previous meet. Pastva then joined teammates Evan Fannin, Alex Richardson, and Jacob Willis in placing second in the 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:41.38. Pastva then helped R-MC post a 146.5 to 115.5 team win over Marymount (Va.) University with two individual event wins, a fourth place finish, and a second place showing in a relay. He won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles in 0:22.51 and 0:51.22 while adding a fourth place showing in the 50-yard backstroke in 0:26.72. Aidan Campbell joined Pastva, Willis and Fannin in finishing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:23.18.
  • Katelyn Wiglesworth, Bridgewater, Jr.
    January 09, 2023
    Wiglesworth, a junior from Landisville, Pa., won three individual events and placed second in a fourth while adding a pair of relays in over two meets for Bridgewater. In a 138-67 loss to Randolph-Macon, Wiglesworth won the 100-meter freestyle in 1:02.83. That converts to 0:56.50 for collegiate rankings. She added a second place finish in the 200-meter at 2:20.84, which converts to 2:07.10. Wiglesworth joined teammates Katie Yoder, Lexi Roberts, and Katie Tolone for a victory in the 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:56.44. Wiglesworth enjoyed three event wins in the Eagles 171-76 team triumph at Virginia Wesleyan. She won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:23.41 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.59. Melia Ross joined Wiglesworth, Tolone, and Roberts for a first place showing in the 400-yard medley relay in 4:20.35.

    December 05, 2022
    Long, a first-year from Johnstown, Pa., put together a strong showing at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College. Long swam seven times in the two-day event, posting three individual times inside the ODAC's top-10 seasonal rankings. He finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly at 0:51.79, the fourth-fastest time in the conference. He added a fourth place showing in the 200-yard individual medley at 1:58.93 and placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:00.51. Both of those marks rank ninth in the conference. Long and teammates Luke Bukowski, Stuart Reyes, and Logan Schohn competed in four relays. They posted times of 1:35.29 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, 3:31.17 in the 400-yard freestyle relay, 1:48.51 in the 200-yard medley relay, and 4:04.29 in the 400-yard medley relay.
  • Katelyn Vieni, Randolph-Macon, Jr.

    Vieni, a junior from Mechanicsville, Va., put together a stellar weekend at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College. Vieni won both the 200-yard and 400-yard individual medley events and set a program record in the shorter event. Her time of 2:08.68 in the 200-IM not only stands atop R-MC's record book entries, but it ranks second in the ODAC this season. Her time of 4:41.77 in the 400-IM is fifth in the league. Vieni added a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:07.22, also the fifth-fastest time in the conference. Vieni completed in three relays with a pair of third place finishes and a fifth place posting. She lead-off the Yellow Jackets third-place 200-yard freestyle relay squad with Caroline Russell, Kelsey James, and Kelsey Craighead joining her on a time of 1:41.61. Vieni and Russell were joined by Kierra Parsons and Melina Christou in finished third in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 8:06.66. Tess Williams joined Vieni, Craighead, and Russell in placing fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:46.01.

    Jobe, a first-year from Henrico, Va., went record-hunting at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational as he helped lead Washington and Lee to second place in the eight-team field. Jobe set a new ODAC overall record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:02.19 to win the event. That time is 15th fastest in NCAA Division III this season, less than a second off the NCAA "B-cut" standard. Jobe finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:39.37. He was better during the prelims of the event when he posted a time of 4:37.05, which is the fastest in the conference and 20th in the country. He added a tie for fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in 0:46.67, which would rank inside the ODAC's top-five. Jobe also swam on a pair of relay teams. He swam anchor on the second place 400-yard freestyle relay of Charles Bryar, Baxter Smelzer, and Matt Snyder. They posted a time of 3:05.81, tops in the conference and 10th in Division III. Jobe and Matt Fritz, Todd Echols, and Thomas Denton finished third in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:26.11, which is also #1 in the league and 17th nationally.
  • Brynn Martinson, Washington and Lee, Jr.

    Martinson, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., came up just short of two NCAA "B-cut" standards in strengthening her grip on two ODAC top-placements at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. Her efforts helped Washington and Lee top the 10-team deep table. Martinson won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events in 0:23.78 and 0:51.83, respectively. Both times improved upon her previous ODAC best marks of the season and rank 14th and 15th in NCAA Division III. Martinson added a second place showing in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.42, the best time in the conference. She also helped Washington and Lee improve their season-best showings in three relay events with two victories. They won the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays with times of 1:36.05 and 3:53.0, respectively. Martinson was joined by Sophia Rollo, Myla Rice, and Tarbet in posting the 11th-best 200-free relay time in the country, while Martinson, Rollo, and Tarbet teamed with Paige McBoyle in setting the 12th-best time in Division III. Martinson, Rice, Rollo, and Tess Deyerle finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:33.33, the 11th-fastest time in the nation.

    Jobe, a first-year from Henrico, Va., continued his strong first season in Lexington with a third ODAC weekly award. In a showdown with nationally 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, Jobe won an event and finished second in two others while improving upon his conference-best marks in two of those events. He won the 200-yard freestyle with a new ODAC season-best time of 1:42.56. He also improved upon his league-leading mark in the 200-yard individual medley, placing second at 1:56.80. His time of 0:46.92 in the 100-yard freestyle stopped the watches second and was just off his previously established season-best mark.

    Martinson, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., continued her strong start to the season with three strong individual swims that featured times second only to her own ODAC seasonal-best marks of the season. She also helped Washington and Lee improve upon its already conference-leading time in a relay. In a showdown with nationally 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, Martinson won the 50-yard freestyle in 0:24.11. She added second place showings in the 100-yard (0:53.12) and 200-yard (1:57.63) freestyle events. Martinson was joined by teammates Bella Tarbet, Myla Rice, and Faith Sconing in posting a new ODAC top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:40.19, good for third in the event.
  • Alex Richardson, Randolph-Macon, Fr.

    Richardson, a freshman from Vero Beach, Fla., won two individual events and placed second in a third while also helping Randolph-Macon to third in a relay in the Yellow Jackets 170-91 dual loss to Catholic University. Richardson won both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events with times of 0:54.94 and 2:01.48, respectively. His 200-fly time ranks third in the conference, while his 100-fly mark is just outside the ODAC's top-10. Richardson is one of only three athletes to compete in the 400-yard individual medley this season. He finished second with a time of 4:26.33, the best of three that have competed thus far. Richardson swam the anchor leg with teammates Ben Pastva, Aidan Campbell, and Morgan VerMeer in the 200-yard freestyle relay. They posted a time of 1:32.26.
  • Kelsey James, Randolph-Macon, Fr.
    November 07, 2022
    James, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., posted a pair of individual wins and helped Randolph-Macon to two second place finishes in relays in the Yellow Jackets 154-108 dual meet loss to Catholic University. James won both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes with times of 1:02.01 and 2:13.25, respectively. Her 100-back time is #5 in the ODAC while her 200-back mark is #6 in the conference. James joined her teammates to finish second in the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays. She swam lead-off with Emily Fritz, Tess Williams, and Katelyn Vieni in the 200-medley with the group posting a time of 1:55.25. James was the anchor on the Jackets 200-free relay with Kelsey Craighead, Caroline Russell, and Vieni joining her for a time of 1:44.59.

    Jobe, a first-year from Henrico, Va., picks up his second ODAC weekly award of the season after helping Washington and Lee post a 175-87 victory over Lynchburg in a conference dual match. Jobe won three individual events, each of which established new ODAC top times and ranked within the top-28 in NCAA Division III. He won the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events in 46.79 seconds and 1:43.54. His 100-free time ranks 15th in the country, while his 200-free mark slots 21st in Division III. Jobe also won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.11. That is the 28th-quickest time in the country.

    Martinson, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., picks up her second ODAC weekly honor of the season after posting three individual victories and joining one relay win in helping Washington and Lee post a 198-64 triumph over Lynchburg in a conference dual match. Martinson won all three shorter freestyle events with times close to her own ODAC records in two of them. She captured the 50-yard free win at 24.03 seconds, which is tops in the ODAC this season and ranks fifth in NCAA Division III. She won the 100-yard free in 52.67 seconds, again the best in the league and sixth in the country. Her ODAC record times in those two events are 23.60 seconds and 51.27 seconds, respectively. Martinson added a victory in the 200-yard free in 1:57.09, the best in the conference and 33rd in the nation. She swam the anchor leg of W&L's winning 200-yard freestyle relay, joining teammates Myla Rice, Faith Sconing, and Bella Target on a time of 1:40.31.
  • Regan Leach, Lynchburg, Fy.
    October 24, 2022
    Leach, a first-year from Mount Pleasant, S.C., registered two times inside the ODAC's posted top-five including an event victory in Lynchburg's 185-77 dual meet loss at Mary Washington. Leach won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.26 seconds, which ranks sixth in the conference. She was even better in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly. She finished second in the 200-IM at 2:14.52, setting a Lynchburg dual meet record in addition to ranking #1 in the ODAC and 39th in Division III. Leach's time of 1:01.16 in the 100-fly stopped the watches third. It is the second fastest in the conference and ranks 71st in the country. Leach also anchored the second place 400-yard relay team in 3:48.75.
  • Ahmad Woodson, Lynchburg, Fy.
    October 24, 2022
    Woodson, a first-year from Palmyra, Va., won a pair of individual events in Lynchburg's 175-87 dual meet loss at Mary Washington. Woodson set a Hornets dual meet record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with the second fastest time in program history at 10:20.60. Thanks ranks third in the ODAC and 54th in Division III this year. Woodson also won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:00.89, the fourth-best time in the conference and 78th in the country.

    Jobe, a first-year from Henrico, Va., won three individual events to help Washington and Lee secure a 168-94 dual meet victory at the University of Mary Washington. Jobe improved upon his already impressive 500-yard freestyle time with a winning mark of 4:50.57. That ranks #1 in the ODAC and sits 16th in NCAA Division III. Jobe also earned top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley with times of 1:45.11 and 1:58.48, respectively. Those are second only to his own previous season-best marks on the conference chart.
  • Paige McBoyle, Washington and Lee, Fy.

    McBoyle, a first-year from Short Hills, N.J., won twice and picked up second and third place finishes in helping Washington and Lee post a 179-82 dual meet victory at the University of Mary Washington. She won both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events with times of 1:09.56 and 2:28.93. The latter mark is tops in the ODAC and ranks 13th in NCAA Division III. Her 100-breastroke time as well as her second place posting of 2:17.78 in the 200-yard individual medley are both top-five in the ODAC and both just off her previous personal season-best times. McBoyle also swam a leg of the third place 200-yard medley relay, which stopped the watches at 1:54.68.

    Martinson, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., was strong out of the gates as the 2022 All-American won twice individual and was a member of six relay wins in Washington and Lee's 193-120 dual victory over Centre and the Generals first place finish of 10 squads at the ODAC Relays. Martinson won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle swims against Centre, posting ODAC top times of 0:24.40 and 0:53.37. She swam the anchor leg of the 200-yard medley relay, winning with teammates Sara Gaston, Amelia Macholz, and Jillian Cantrell in 1:50.00. She led off the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sophia Rollo, Myla Rice, and Schuler Ross, which posted a time of 1:40.27. At the ODAC relays, Martinson swam second on the winning 100-yard freestyle relay team in 0:45.96, lead-off on the winning 400-yard and 500-yard freestyle relay teams in 3:39.13 and 4:49.03, respectively, and anchor on the winning 200-yard medley relay team in 1:51.47.
