Greensboro's Humphrey Leads Team Over ODAC Seniors

Box Score

SALEM, Va. --- Greensboro College's Staci Humphrey dropped in a team-high 17 points as the senior women from the USA South Athletic Conference defeated their counterparts from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), 84-77, in the second annual ODAC/USA South Senior Challenge.

Humphrey, who recorded a pair of triple-doubles during the season, fell just short of a third with eight assists and seven boards added to her score line.  Methodist College's Stacy Williams added 12 points and four rebounds while Christopher Newport University's Dee Luck chipped in 10 markers and seven boards.

Randolph-Macon College's Salem Shaffer continued her hot shooting as she led all scorers with 30 points including an 8-for-12 showing from beyond the arc.  She also pulled down an ODAC-best nine rebounds.  Washington & Lee University's Jessica Hunsinger was added 14 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks to the effort.  Bridgewater College's Katy Herr Lovell recorded nine points and seven caroms to with four assists.

Neither team could get much of an upper hand in the opening quarter with the USA South ending the first 12 minutes of play with a two-point edge at 21-19.  The USA South opened up the scoring a bit more in the second period, going into the half up seven at 40-33.

Shaffer caught fire through the final three quarters, hitting for 18 points on 6-of-10 from the field (4-of-6 from deep), but the Humphrey continued to make timely plays for the USA South with Shenandoah's Cassie Womack and Luck pitching in during crunch time.

Second chance opportunities also stifled any chance of an ODAC comeback as the USA South commanded a 78-40 edge in rebounding with 34 boards coming via the offensive glass.

The men's edition of the 2007 ODAC/USA South Senior Challenge is set for Saturday, March 18, 3:00 p.m., also on the court of the Homer C. Bast Center on the campus of Roanoke College.
