  • ODAC Announces Berkley and Jopson Award Winners
    June 04, 2019
    The latter end of the ODAC's alphabet features in the final recognition bestowed by the conference this year as Virginia Wesleyan University and Washington and Lee University are home to the 2018-19 Marjorie Berkley and Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Scholar-Athlete Award winners. Marlins women's basketball playmaker Jayla Harris earned the Berkley Award, while Generals cross country and track & field runner Hank Patrick received the Jopson Award following a vote of the conference's Board of Directors.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Tabs Hudy as New Women's Basketball Head Coach

    Virginia Wesleyan University has turned to veteran Averett University coach and Mary Washington Hall of Famer Liz Hudy as its new women's basketball head coach. Hudy replaces Stephany Dunmyer, who resigned after 16 seasons to become the next coach at Oberlin College.
  • V University and ODAC Basketball Partnership Remains Strong in Second Year

    Prior to the 2018-19 Division III basketball seasons, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced a continued partnership with V University virtual campus for supporting cancer research.  Following a successful first year of participation, the ODAC men’s and women’s basketball programs built upon the momentum from 2017-18 by conducting events in conjunction with select home games to benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, as well as a few other subsidiaries and causes. Through those events, conference schools generated more than $6,900 of charitable donations in addition to programming efforts to support both organizations.
  • E&H's Crutchfield Promoted from Interim Status to Director of Athletics

    Emory & Henry College made two moves in its athletics department, as announced on Wednesday afternoon. Anne Crutchfield, who served the past two years as Interim Director of Athletics in addition to the Wasps women's basketball head coach, has been promoted to Director of Athletics. Jaclyn Dickens, Crutchfield's lead assistant for the past four seasons, has been promoted to head coach for the women's basketball team.
  • VWU's Harris, E&H's Blevins Selected for Inaugural Beyond Sports All-Star Game

    Virginia Wesleyan senior guard Jayla Harris and Emory & Henry senior forward Taylor Blevins are among 18 players announced as all-stars for the inaugural Beyond Sports Women's Collegiate All-Star Game sponsored by the WBCA. Both will compete in a star-studded event in association with the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship semifinals and final hosted by Roanoke College on March 15-16.
  • Rotary Club of Salem Announces Finalists for 2019 Jostens Trophy

    The 2019 Jostens Trophy timeline reached a benchmark in its annual process with the announcement of the finalists by the members of the Rotary Club of Salem (Va.) on Tuesday.  Twenty student-athletes -- 10 men and 10 women -- remain in the running for this season's honors from a stellar pool of nominees representing all eight regions of Division III men's and women's basketball.

  • Shenandoah Completes Cinderella Run, Lifts First ODAC Women's Hoops Trophy

    The Shenandoah University women's basketball team completed its Cinderella run through the ODAC Tournament by earning its first-ever ODAC championship thanks to a 63-53 win over Washington and Lee University Sunday at the Salem Civic Center.
  • VWU's Harris, GC's Flamini Lead ODAC Women’s Basketball Awards

    Virginia Wesleyan University guard Jayla Harris and Guilford College mentor Stephanie Flamini headline the 2019 All-ODAC Women's Basketball Awards, as announced by the ODAC Wednesday morning. Harris earned ODAC Player of the Year laurels, while Flamini was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year. Washington and Lee University guard Erin Hughes received the first ODAC Defensive Player of the Year honor. Guilford forward Lindsay Gauldin collected ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades, while Bridgewater College guard Briana Moore earned ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete recognition.

    The top two seeds in the upcoming ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament are riding considerable winning streaks with the season coming to a close. Guilford College earns top billing with a 16-2 league mark powered by nine straight victories. Emory & Henry College has won 11 consecutive outings on the way to a 15-3 conference record and the second seed in the ODAC's 10-team tournament field.

    Competition is always a bit sporadic during the holiday season with student-athletes taking the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. ODAC teams have still been busy over the past two weeks with 23 of the 26 total men's and women's basketball squads competing in 46 overall games since December 17. Those earning ODAC "weekly" honors covering the past 14 days of competition are Roy McMillan from Washington and Lee men's basketball and Taylor Blevins from Emory & Henry women's basketball.

    Finals week and preparation for holiday breaks left ODAC fans with just a handful of men's and women's basketball games to enjoy. The games that were played saw ODAC teams win 14-of-18 non-conference games between the two sports.     The Women's Basketball Coaches Association in partnership with Beyond Sports is pleased to announce that the inaugural Beyond Sports Division III All-Star Game presented by the WBCA will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Cregger Center.

  • Randolph-Macon's LaHaye Becomes All-Time ODAC Wins Leader

    Randolph-Macon College women's basketball coach Carroll LaHaye became the ODAC's all-time leader in basketball victories on Tuesday, regardless of gender. The Yellow Jackets 94-87 triumph in their ODAC opener at Bridgewater College marked the 612th win over LaHaye's career.

  • Randolph-Macon Tops ODAC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll
    October 25, 2018
    Two teams commanded all 13 first place votes in the 2018-19 ODAC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, with just three overall points separating them at the top of the survey. Randolph-Macon College secured seven top nods on the way to a chart-topping 139 tallies, leaving the defending champion Yellow Jackets just three points clear of second position Emory & Henry College at 136 points. The Wasps picked up the remaining first place votes in the annual coaches' survey. The University of Lynchburg and Guilford College each cracked the century mark with 122 and 105 markers, respectively, sitting in third and fourth positions.
  • Hollins Names Dunton as Women's Basketball Head Coach

    Director of Athletics Myra Sims is pleased to announce the hiring of Emilee Dunton as the new head basketball coach at Hollins University. The position was vacated in August when previous head coach Jenny Logan resigned to accept the coaching position at Eastern Mennonite University.
