  • ODAC Announces Berkley and Jopson Award Winners
    June 07, 2022
    It is rare to have a "first" for a set of awards that have been bestowed since the early 1980's, but that is exactly what we have this season following the announcement of the Marjorie Berkley and Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Awards on Tuesday afternoon. Shenandoah University women's basketball forward Olivia Weinel and Eastern Mennonite University cross country and mid-distance track athlete Isaac Alderfer garnered the conference's highest honors from the ODAC Board of the Directors. Weinel is the first recipient of either honor from Shenandoah since the Winchester-based school joined the ODAC prior to the 2012-13 season. Alderfer is the sixth Royal to earn the Jopson Award and 12th overall high honor winner from EMU. He is the first Royals' student-athlete to claim either trophy since Tyler Denlinger earned the Jopson Award in 2017.
  • Bridgewater Names Flamini as Next Women's Basketball Head Coach

    Bridgewater College director of athletics Curt Kendall has announced the hiring of former ODAC Coach of the Year and WBCA Region Coach of the Year Stephanie Flamini as the College's new head coach for the women's basketball program. Flamini will be the eighth head coach in the program's history.
  • W&L's Horn Headlines End-of-Season Women's Basketball Awards

    ODAC Player of the Year Megan Horn from Washington and Lee University headlined the end-of-season women's basketball awards, as recently announced by D3hoops.com and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Horn was the lone conference player to garner All-America status. She was tabbed to the Honorable Mention All-American Team.

    The Jostens Trophy awards have long been coveted prizes in NCAA Division III men's and women's basketball by both student-athletes and their collegiate institutions. The honors were not presented in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we are one step closer to learning who will lift the hardware in 2022 with the announcement of 22 finalists on Friday afternoon by the Rotary Club of Salem, Va.

    ODAC champion Shenandoah University will have an ODAC running mate in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament field as Washington and Lee University was selected at-large to join the Hornets in the 64-team field.
  • Shenandoah Claims Second ODAC Women's Basketball Title

    Shenandoah University women's basketball is 2-for-2 is conference championship games as the Hornets lifted their second ODAC trophy in as many tries with a 56-43 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Sunday in the Salem Civic Center. Shenandoah (22-5 overall, 13-5 ODAC), seeded fourth in the tournament, earns the ODAC's automatic entry into the NCAA Division III Tournament field of 64 teams. Randolph-Macon (20-7, 16-2), the ODAC's second seed, is among the league's schools that will wait to see where they rank inside of the NCAA's Region VI for a possible at-large selection. The bracket will be announced on Monday on www.ncaa.com.
  • ODAC Announces the 2021-22 All-ODAC Women's Basketball Awards

    Washington and Lee University earned three all-conference selections in addition to pair of special awards to headline the 2021-22 All-ODAC Women's Basketball Awards. Generals guard Megan Horn was tabbed the ODAC Player of the Year, while W&L mentor Christine Clancy garnered ODAC Coach of the Year laurels from her peers. Shenandoah University point guard Sierra St. Cyr collected ODAC Defensive Player of the Year plaudits. Randolph College is home to the ODAC Rookie of the Year for a second straight season with guard Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson earning this year accolade. University of Lynchburg guard Lizzie Davis received ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors from the league's athletic communications personnel.

  • ODAC Announces Women's Basketball Tournament Field

    Tiebreakers were needed to determine the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Both Washington and Lee University and Randolph-Macon College finished their 18-game conference schedules with 16-2 records. But the Generals 52-49 victory at R-MC in the squads' lone matchup of the season earned W&L the nod in the ODAC's tiebreaking procedures and top billing in the 10-team tournament field. After a year away from its friendly confines, the ODAC Tournament returns to the Salem Civic Center for final-eight play following first round action at two campus sites at the beginning of the week. Competition in the first round is slated for Tuesday, February 22, at the seventh and eight seeds. The winners of those two games will join the top six seeds in Salem for traditional quarterfinal through championship competition beginning on Friday, February 25.

    Basketball was the first ODAC sport in action in January following a long layoff due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now it returns to its traditional footprint with the 2021-22 season kicking off on Friday, November 5. Roanoke College women's basketball appeared in its first ODAC title game since 2011 and finished as the runner-up to the University of Lynchburg. The Maroons have been predicted to make a return trip to the conference finals as they top the ODAC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.
