Washington and Lee Travels for Early Rounds of NCAA Women's Basketball Play

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- ODAC champion Washington and Lee University will be the lone ODAC team representing the conference in the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship, as announced by the Division III Women's Basketball Championship Committee on Monday afternoon.

Washington and Lee (22-6) is making just its third appearance in the Division III women's basketball postseason, but 2023 marks its second straight berth. The Generals also entered the national bracket in 2010 following the program's first ODAC title.

The field of 64 teams includes 44 squads that earned Pool "A" bids as automatic qualifiers from their respective conferences. Washington and Lee falls into this category. One program received a Pool "B" berth as true independent programs or those competing in leagues without automatic qualification. Pool "C" -- at-large choices among all remaining teams eligible for selection -- accounts for the remaining 19 teams in the bracket.

Washington and Lee travels to Ada, Ohio, for early round play at Ohio Northern University. The Ada-pod appears in the lower-left quadrant of the bracket. The Generals meet the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the first round. The Titans (19-8) are an at-large selection out of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The other first round matchup in Ada features the host Polar Bears (23-4) and Berea College (26-2). ONU won the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) crown, while the Mountaineers are the lone Pool "B" bid in the field. They won the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) championship, but as a brand new league in 2022-23, the CSS does not yet feature an automatic berth.

First and second round play is set for Friday and Saturday, March 3-4. Sectional action follows at four locations on Friday and Saturday, March 10-11. The national semifinals will be played at Trinity College (Conn.) in Oosting Gymnasium on March 18. In a special event, the Division III and II championship games will be competed in conjunction with the Division I Women's Final Four. Those games will be played on Saturday, April 1, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Game times and ticket information will be announced later this week. For more information, visit the websites of any of the participating schools.
