2022 ODAC Cross Country Roundtable

FOREST, Va. --- Streaks come and go in sports with some longer than others. ODAC cross country features a rather unique run as one school has swept both the men's and women's titles each of the past eight championship events. Different members have earned those crowns, but whichever school hoisted one trophy, that institution ended up lifting the other prize from that meet as well. That leaves one question -- will it happen again in 2022?

Three of the conference's head coaches joined the ODAC's J.J. Nekoloff to shed some light on that topic among several areas of discussion with the new season set to kickoff on September 1. Washington and Lee University's Brandon Spalding featured along side 2022 ODAC Championship host Andrew Marrocco from Shenandoah University and the University of Lynchburg's Jake Reed.

Conference teams will have their work cut out to snap the ODAC's title winning trend, which began in 2013. Lynchburg opens the year as favorite to add two pieces of hardware to their trophy cases. The Hornets, who donned both crowns in 2021, are ranked in each of the Division III national preseason polls published by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Lynchburg's women are slotted 26th on the 35-team chart, but it is LYN's men garnering considerable headlines as the 11th-rated team in the country. Both Lynchburg squads are perched #1 in their respective South Region lists.

Washington and Lee's outfits also earned recognition in both surveys. The Generals' women are 32nd in the national poll and third in the region, while W&L's men received votes towards the national chart and sit fourth in the regional rankings. Bridgewater College features in both regional publications with the Eagles' women standing eighth and their men's program capping the 10-team men's listing. Shenandoah's women round out the ODAC's ranked contingent at #9 in the region.
