Scharf, a student in the Washington and Lee law program from Elizabethtown, Pa., put together a strong opening race to start the 2022 season following his transfer from Dickinson College. Scharf won the Shenandoah Twilight opener using a 4:57.00 per mile pace on the five-kilometer layout at Kernstown Battlefield, home of the 2022 ODAC Cross Country Championships. Scharf's final time of 15:22.7 bested teammate Colin Verrett, who finished 49.7-seconds behind in second place. The Generals finished first in the team standings ahead of Bridgewater College, Shenandoah University, and Marymount University.
