R-MC Defeats Roanoke, 72-64, in the First Round of the ODAC Tournament

Ashland, Va. --- The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated Roanoke College in the first round of the 2013 ODAC Championship Tournament on Monday night. The Yellow Jackets will face Guilford College on Thursday in Salem, Va. at 6:00 p.m.

Sarah Parsons led all scorers with 27 points and five steals. Katie Anderson joined Parsons in double-figures, putting together a solid game of 18 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Hannah Livermon chipped in with eight points while Lauren Vugteveen added seven. 

The Yellow Jackets started off the game strong, taking a 15-8 lead after Livermon drained a jump-shot just over five minutes into play. 

Over the course of the next seven minutes, R-MC extended its lead with a 7-3 run to take a 22-11 advantage with 7:42 on the clock. 

Roanoke began to chip away at the R-MC lead, but the Yellow Jackets were able to hold on to its lead and took a 35-31 edge into the intermission.

The Maroons began the second half with an 8-2 run to regain the lead at 39-37. 

Both teams went basket-for-basket over the course of the next seven minutes, which featured three ties, before the Yellow Jackets took control of the game with 9:40 left. 

Khajae Hester went 4-for-4 down the stretch to secure the win for the Yellow Jackets. 

Markia Beckwith paced the Maroons with 14 points.  Tatum McGee dropped in 13 markers and dished out a game-high five assists.  Paxtin Gwin added 12 points and seven rebounds.  Roanoke ends its season with a 10-16 overall record and a 6-10 mark in conference play. 

R-MC will be back in action on Thursday in Salem, Va. as it faces Guilford College for a 6:00 p.m. game.
