Final Four Teams Set for ODAC Baseball Championship Weekend

FOREST, Va. --- Weather may have extended the opening weekend of the ODAC Baseball Tournament by a day, but there's not much better than bonus baseball...especially in the ODAC!

Top-seeded University of Lynchburg punched its ticket to the final weekend on Monday afternoon, completing the set of four teams that will be competing at Pitt Field at the University of Richmond. Joining Lynchburg in the double-elimination three-day affair is second-seeded Shenandoah University, third-seeded Roanoke College, and fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon College.

A maximum of seven games are slated from Thursday-Saturday, May 11-13. Each team will feature once on Thursday with two elimination games sandwiching the winners' bracket semifinal on Friday. Both possible championship games -- Game 7 is an "if necessary" game in the double-elimination format -- are scheduled for Saturday. Any changes to the schedule due to weather or other circumstances will be communicated.

All but one series from the first weekend of competition was decided in two games. Lynchburg (35-6) needed three games to eliminate eighth-seeded Bridgewater College (17-26) after the Eagles took game one on Friday, 7-6. The Hornets recovered with a pair of 11-1 triumphs on Sunday and on Monday after weather pushed the final game of the set to an extended day.

Shenandoah (36-5) defeated seventh-seeded Guilford College (20-19-1) with 6-3 and 7-6 wins after the Quakers late-comeback in game two nearly extended the series Haden Madagan's solo shot in the ninth put the Hornets up for good.

Roanoke (27-15) took on sixth-seeded Washington and Lee University (18-17) at WW Naff Jr. Field in Rocky Mount with its normal facility unavailable for the weekend. The change in venue did not stop the Maroons from advancing with 5-3 and 4-1 victories over the Generals.

Randolph-Macon (31-11) squared off with multi-sport rival Hampden-Sydney College (20-19) in Ashland. Two tight victories -- including a 2-0 gem of a shutout by Hayden Snelsire (4 hits, 13 K's) in game one -- pushed the Yellow Jackets to the final weekend. They held off a fierce charge from the Tigers in game two as H-SC posted seven runs over the final two frames before coming up short, 9-8.
