LC Advances to Title Game with Win Over EMU

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Senior attack Jenny Weir posted two goals and two assists as the Lynchburg College field hockey team rolled to a 6-0 win over #4 seed Eastern Mennonite University Wednesday in a semifinal game in the 2010 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament. The top-seeded Hornets look for their fifth-straight title Saturday against #2 Randolph-Macon College, a 5-3 winner against Washington & Lee in the other semifinal game.

Weir opened the scoring at 7:34 of the first half on an assist from Shelly Milks and assisted a Nicole Marburger tally exactly 13 minutes later. Weir scored from Marburger and Amanda Wain scored on an assist from Lindsay Leonard (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) to close out the first half scoring.

Senior Caitlin Gibb found the back of the cage on a penalty stroke at 49:10 and Leonard ended the game scoring from Weir at 51:49.

The Hornets out-shot the Royals 34-16 for the game, but EMU fired 12 shots after intermission. LC had 19 penalty corners for the contest, while the Royals were awarded all six of their corners in the second half.

Becky Nolt made 14 saves for EMU (10-9), while Tiffany Frye made seven stops in just under 58 minutes of play for LC.

The game time for Saturday's title game will be announced on Thursday. LC defeated the Yellow Jackets 4-0 in the regular-season matchup in Ashland.
