Lynchburg Captures Eighth Straight ODAC Field Hockey Title

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated Randolph-Macon College 2-0 Saturday in the championship game to capture the program's eighth-straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title.

The Hornets struck just eight minutes into play, as junior Katie Kline found the back of the cage on a feed from Morgan Lammando. Both teams had scoring opportunities throughout the first half, but the goalkeepers, Steph Talley for R-MC and Jordan Seeley for LC, kept the ball out of the net.

Lynchburg added an insurance goal at the 53:42 mark of the second half. After the Yellow Jackets threatened but couldn't convert in the early part of the half, sophomore Kayla Krauseknocked in a rebound to make the score 2-0. The Hornet defense made the two-goal lead stand up.

Seeley wound up making eight stops for LC to preserve the shutout. Talley was outstanding between the pipes for R-MC, stopping 11 shots, while defender Olivia Newman made a defensive save.

The Hornets out-shot the Yellow Jackets 22-14 and held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.

The Hornets (16-4) move on to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth-straight year, earning the ODAC's automatic bid. LC will find out its first-round opponent and site late Sunday evening.
