Quakers Maintain Four-Stroke Edge, Robinson Reaches 10-Under at ODAC Men's Golf

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Guilford College maintained a four-stroke lead over Washington and Lee University following 36 holes at the ODAC Men's Golf Championship at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Both squads were joined by Averett University in carding rounds of 5-over 293 on day two.

Individual leader Pierce Robinson from Washington and Lee posted his second straight sub-par round, but saw his three shot advantage after round one shrink to two strokes over Guilford's Sam Davidson with the tournament's final 18 holes slated for Tuesday morning and afternoon.

Guilford, ranked fifth in Division III by Golfstat, followed up its opening round 284 with a 5-over par effort on Monday following a second set of 18 holes on the par-72 track set to just under 7,000 yards after a few tweaks to tee boxes for round two. The Quakers at 577 lead 10th-ranked W&L by four strokes. Averett and the University of Lynchburg -- slotted 19th and 25th in the country, respectively -- sit at 12-over 588. The Cougars will play with GC and W&L on Tuesday with Lynchburg's players joining Hampden-Sydney College and Roanoke College in the preceding grouping.

Robinson, who lit up the course for a bogey-free 8-under 64 on Sunday, made up for his first three bogeys of the tournament with five birdies in round two for a 2-under 70 for the round. His 10-under 134 total is two strokes clear of Davidson. He went out in even-par 36 on Monday, but returned to the clubhouse in 33 powered by five birdies for a 3-under 69. Teammate Michael Vick remains in striking distance at 4-uder 140 following a 1-over 73 on day two.

Averett's Antti Vahvaselka posted the round of the day at 4-under 68 to move into fourth position at 2-under 142. The powerful 6-foot-4 native from Helsinki, Finland, moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard thanks to not only five birdies, but cutting down his over-par holes from five in round one to just one on Monday.

Play resumes on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET with round three of the 54-hole event. The top-nine ranked teams in the tournament standings will begin their days on the first hole, while the 10th and 11th-placed squads will be joined by the five individuals playing as markers on the 10th hole at the 10:00 a.m. ET tee time.
