Generals Pull Away on Day Two, Brubaker Leads by Two Over SBC's Narang at ODAC Women's Golf

Sweet Briar's Amani Narang was joined by Averett's Caroline Tamburstuen in posting the best rounds of the day (even-par 71) on day two of the ODAC Women's Golf Championship at Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet, Va.

CROZET, Va. --- As dreary as Friday's weather conditions were for the start of the ODAC Women's Golf Tournament, that's how beautiful the setting was on Saturday for round two at Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet, Va. Washington and Lee University took advantage of the much-improved conditions to sprint out to a 16-stroke advantage over the University of Lynchburg with 36 holes in the books.

The individual leaderboard is much tighter. Lynchburg's Emily Brubaker continues her bid for back-to-back ODAC medalist honors, but her lead is just two shots over Amani Narang from Sweet Briar College and three strokes over Julia Haetzel and Megan Kanaby from Washington and Lee.

Weather is not expected to be in the players' favor on Sunday as the event tries to reach is intended 54-hole conclusion. More rain is likely with the threat of thunderstorms throughout the night and into the afternoon hours on Sunday is possible. The current plan for play on Sunday is to begin with nine holes in a "shotgun" start format at 9:30 a.m. ET. Players will play the front nine first before an attempt to start play on the back nine begins. ODAC and course officials will consult with weather professionals early Sunday morning to see if the 9:30 planned start can be achieved or if later windows will become available to resume play.

If competition begins on Sunday, a full nine holes must be achieved. If any rounds are partial when play has to be suspended or ultimately canceled, the tournament would revert back to the last completed nine holes of golf. If play cannot be continued at all, the championship will be deemed final at 36 holes competed.

All five of Washington and Lee's players carded rounds of 5-over 76 or better on the par-71 track set to 5,500 yards. Haetzel led the way at 2-over 76 with three birdies on her scorecard. An Shelmire and Marcella Mercer posted 3-over rounds of 74. Shelmire registered one birdie and sunk a lengthy par putt on 18 to wrap up her round, while Mercer joined Bridgewater's Savannah Scott as the lone players with an eagle in the tournament after carding a "3" on the par-5 403-yard third hole. Both Laetitia Roegner and Kanaby returned to the clubhouse with 5-over rounds of 76.

Brubaker had two very different nines on day two. She went out at even-par 35 with birdies on the first and third holes, but a double-bogey on #14 and three straight bogies to close her back nine saw her come in at 5-over 41 for a 5-over round of 76.

Still, Brubaker holds a two-shot lead entering the final day over SBC's Narang. Narang and Caroline Tamburstuen from Averett University posted the best rounds of the day at even-par 71. Narang was blemish free on the front nine with birdies on #1 and #3. She bogeyed #13 and the closing 18th hole to leave her at 8-over 150 entering round three.
