LC Advances To Championship Game With a 14-6 Win Over VWC

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Junior Max Voumard scored six goals Saturday evening to lead Lynchburg College to a 14-6 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College in a semifinal matchup in the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. It is the 15th-straight win for the third-ranked team in the nation.

The Marlins, seeded fifth in the six-team, single elimination tournament, started strong - taking a 3-1 lead midway through the first. Top-seeded Lynchburg found the back of the net four-straight times, two from Voumard, to take a 5-3 edge, and give Voumard a hat trick in the first quarter. Each team scored once before the end of the period and the Hornets held a 6-4 lead after one.

Lynchburg scored all four goals of the second period to take a 10-4 advantage into to intermission. LC's Derek Sweet and VWC's Ian Shankland were the only goal scorers of the third period, and three-straight Hornet tallies to lead off the fourth put the game out of reach.

Senior Dylan Hoff had two goals and an assist and fellow senior Andrew Wilfong also scored twice. Junior Vin Curran and senior Ben Sauer each posted a goal and two assists while junior Pat Ohrem had a goal and an assist.

Travis Puls had two tallies for Virginia Wesleyan (10-7). Keeper Corey Bauer made 20 saves in net, including several spectacular stops.

Senior Matt Jernack won 15 of his 22 face-off attempts and grabbed a team-high six ground balls. Senior goalie Franc Cook made seven stops in nearly 58 minutes between the pipes.

Lynchburg will face sixth-seeded Washington & Lee University in the ODAC title game next Sunday, May 6 at a time to be determined. The Generals upset second-seed Roanoke College Saturday 11-8 in the day's other semifinal matchup.
