CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. ---
Washington and Lee University saved their first event victory for the final race of the day, but the Generals dominated the upper ranks in all five events to propel them to the top of the ODAC/Atlantic States Swimming Championships standings with 302 points by the end of day one.  Randolph-Macon College, winner of three events, sits second with 219 points, and Sweet Briar College rounds out the top three with 90 points.

Nine teams are competing in the joint championships, with ODAC schools commanding the first four placings in the team standings.  Greensboro College and the College of Notre Dame (Md.) join the ODAC's contingent of seven swimming schools.

Randolph-Macon got the scoring started with the team of Lizzy Buckley, Tracilyn Babington, Elizabeth Plowman and Sarah Almond touching the wall in a school-record 1:39.11 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.  Washington and Lee (1:39.52) placed second, with Sweet Briar (1:45.26) coming in third.
