W&L's Luth Named MOP, Generals Hoist ODAC Wrestling Championships Trophy

WINCHESTER, Va. --- Six different schools saw wrestlers claim weight class titles to highlight the 2023 ODAC Wrestling Championships at Shenandoah University on Saturday. Washington and Lee University powered its way to the team championship by appearing in an event-high seven championship bouts. Generals' wrestlers won three championships, matched only by the three titles won by competitors from Averett University.

W&L's Ryan Luth earned ODAC Most Outstanding Wrestler honors after dominating his way to a gold medal at 157 pounds. Ranked fifth in Division III by the NWCA, Luth opened with a technical fall victory (18-1) at 4:22 over Greensboro's David Miller. He then pinned Ferrum's Christian Hite at 3:42 to setup a championship tilt with Averett's Jesse Alvarado, who is ranked sixth in the country, just behind Luth. W&L's former All-American was a force in the ranked matchup, earning a major decision (12-0) over Alvarado to rack up the 157-pound crown.
