#13 Tartans Win Fourth Straight

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 13th nationally, hosted the #19 Generals of Washington and Lee University Saturday, March 31.  The Tartans handed the Generals a 6-3 defeat.  The win marked the third straight over a ranked foe for the Tartans and their fourth straight, as they improve to 10-4 while Washington and Lee is now 11-4.

The tandem of freshman Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) and junior Harsha Rao (Severn, Md./Old Mill) at second doubles started the Tartans out with an 8-1 victory.  Moments following the second doubles win, junior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and freshman Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) won at number one doubles 8-4 giving the Tartans a 2-0 advantage.  Washington and Lee took third doubles as the score was 2-1 heading into singles play.

Carnegie Mellon picked-up wins at first, second, third and fourth singles to take the match 6-3. Millers straight set victory over Hayden White, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, at first singles sealed the win. Carnegie Mellon posted another straight set victory when freshman Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) defeated Taylor Shamshiri 6-3, 6-1 at second singles.
