No. 11 Lynchburg Escapes With 12-10 Win Over Maroons in ODAC Tournament Semifinals

The Basics
Score: No. 11 Lynchburg 12, Roanoke 10
Records: Hornets 13-5; Maroons 11-8
Location: Lynchburg, Va.

The Lead: Lynchburg scored twice in the final five minutes to come from behind to down the Roanoke men's lacrosse team in the ODAC Tournament semifinals on Thursday evening in Lynchburg, 12-10.

How it Happened/Highlights:

  • The Hornets scored first less than a minute into the game, but the Maroons responded often. Ethan Caldwell tied the game at 1-1 off an assist from Bryson Miller at 8:28 before Quinn Evans (from Luke Kammerman) and L. Kammerman (unassisted) gave Roanoke a 3-1 lead at 4:54. After a Lynchburg goal with just under four left in the first quarter, Luca Docking took a pass from Sean Kennedy and fired a goal at 1:59 to give the Maroons a 4-2 after the first period.
  • The teams would play mostly even after a Hornets goal at 14:00 with each team trading goals as the Maroons saw Wyatt Whitlow and Evans (from Matthew Albertson) both score to keep Roanoke on top heading into halftime, 6-5.
  • The third quarter was much of the same by both squads as they would keep trading goals with Albertson (9:48), L. Kammerman (3:23), and Stephen Conte (from Carson Peck, 2:04) all found the back of the cage.
  • Things, unfortunately, slowed down for the Maroons in the fourth with an unassisted goal by Kennedy that was surrounded by two goals before and after by Lynchburg as the Hornets came from behind to advance to the ODAC Championship against Washington and Lee.
  • Both L. Kammerman and Evans scored twice for Roanoke against Lynchburg.
  • RT Williamson had a team-high four ground balls as both Peck and Matt Jahries each finished with three.
  • Weston Hammond led the Maroons with two caused turnovers.
  • Alex Feuer made nine saves against the Hornets while facing 21 shots in his 60 minutes in goal.
