Maroons Shutout the Cougars in ODAC Doubleheader

The Lead: The Maroons shut out the Cougars in both games of their doubleheader. Roanoke started off strong both games by scoring runs in the first inning and having a combined total of 24 hits.

Highlights:

  • Starting off the first inning Meri Bostic hit a triple into right field. Morgan Clark hit a deep fly ball into left field allowing Bostic to score.
  • Molly Epperson led off the top of the third with a single followed by a double into center field by Kate Houle. Lilly Burns hit a 2-run double and then later was scored by fly ball to right field by Madison Courts.
  • A single by Clark started off the fourth inning. Adriana Rivera drove a line drive into left center field which scored Clark. Rivera later scored on a wild pitch.
  • In the top of the sixth Clark singled into right field, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Rivera reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop which also scored Clark. Epperson singled up the middle and Houle followed with a double to center field to bring in Rivera. Burns hit a deep fly ball to center field which scored Amber Vaughn. Jordyn DiFava doubled into center field to score Houle.

Highlights:

  • Game two started off similar to game one with Bostic hitting a single up the middle. Rivera single up the middle which put runners on the corners. Rivera stole second and drew the throw which allowed for Bostic to steal home. Lauren Hoffman doubled down the left field line scoring Rivera. Houle reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop which allowed for Hoffman to advance to third. Burns hit a long fly ball into center field which scored Hoffman.
  • After four scoreless innings Clark started off the top of the fifth with a single through the left side. Hoffman singled through the left side to score Clark and put runners on the corners. Houle single up the middle which scored Hoffman. Burns hit a line drive up the middle to load the bases. Rachel Sirbaugh drew a walk which brought in Hoffman.
  • In the top of the seventh Hoffman reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop. Hannah Shepherd had a pinch hit single. Madison Cooke drove a single into center field which scored Hoffman.
  • Houle went 4 for 4 in game one with one RBI. Rivera went 2 for 4 for 2 RBI's.
  • Hoffman went 2 for 4 with two RBI's.
  • Burns went 3 for 5 on the day with four RBI's

 

Up next: Roanoke will travel to Ashland to take on No.9 Randolph-Macon. Game one is scheduled to start at 1:00pm
