The Lead: Monday night would see another make-up game for the Roanoke women's basketball team as they traveled to face Randolph College. In the matchup of top four Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) teams, the Maroons held a 34-26 lead at the break. Randolph would get to within four but a late run in the third pushed the Roanoke lead into double-digits. The Maroons would pull away in the fourth quarter for their 10th ODAC win of the season.

How it Happened:

  • With the score 6-3 in the early stages, Kristina Harrel scored then assisted on a Rose Sande three-pointer as Roanoke took a 12-3 advantage about midway through the opening period.
  • The WildCats would close the gap to a one possession game before Sande and Renee Alquiza scored to give RC a 17-10 advantage after one quarter of play.
  • Randolph cut the deficit to a single point, 21-20, with just over three-minutes left before the half. An Ayanna Scarborough layup and 3-ball by Alquiza sparked a Roanoke run that would see the Maroons take an eight-point lead into the locker room.
  • With their lead cut to four, 38-34, another Alquiza three sparked a 10-0 RC surge that allowed the Maroons to hold a 12-point spread heading into the final 10-minutes.
  • The momentum stayed with the visitors from Salem as they put the game away with an 11-0 run to start the quarter. A jumper by JaBryah Haverkamp followed by a layup by Sande would give Roanoke their largest lead of the night, 63-39, as the Maroons cruised to their 10th conference win, 65-47.
  • Five Maroons would score in double figures led by Sande with 16. Scarborough and Morgan Micallef each scored 12 with Alquiza and Harrel adding 10 apiece. Sayre Brandstatter grabbed a team high seven rebounds with Harrel handing out seven assists.

Up next: Roanoke will play the second of four road games this week when they travel to Shenandoah on Wednesday night. The tip with the Hornets is scheduled for 7:00pm.
