Roanoke Picks Up Two Wins At Tri-Match

Match 1 

Score: Roanoke 3 | Bridgewater 1 (29-27, 25-21, 19-25, 27-25)
Records: Maroons 3-2 / 3-2 ODAC | Eagles 1-3 / 1-3 ODAC

The Lead: The Roanoke College volleyball team hosted an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tri-match on Saturday afternoon when they welcomed Bridgewater and Shenandoah to the Cregger Center. The Maroons prevailed in a hard fought, 3-1, win over the Eagles before completing the day 2-0 with a 3-0 sweep of the Hornets.

How it Happened:

  • Bridgewater would break open a close first set with a 10-4 surge to take a 15-9 lead.
  • However, the Maroons would start to mount a rally when Parker Moody recorded a kill and Logan Pasley went to the service line. Pasley would serve the Maroons to three straight points thaks to hitting errors and a kill by Linsey Bailey.
  • Roanoke would come all the way back to tie the score at 25-25. After an attack error, the Maroons got a kill and service ace by Bailey to take a one-point lead and when the Eagles suffered a setting error, Roanoke had taken the opener 29-27.
  • This time it was the Maroons that would take a six-point lead, 16-10, mid-way through the set. Six straight by BC would knot the set at 16 apiece.
  • Roanoke would rebuild their advantage to 24-19 before a pair of Eagle points would close the gap. An Angel Ross kill finished off set number two with Roanoke leading 2-0.
  • Nine Roanoke hitting errors and 12 kills by Bridgewater would allow the Eagles to make it 2-1.
  • The fourth set would once again see both teams take and re-take the lead. Trailing 24-22, the Maroons took a timeout and a pair of Bailey kills would see the frame tied at 24-24.
  • BC would take a 25-24 lead before Moody tied it up at 25-25. Two Bridgewater miscues would see Roanoke take the set 27-25 and the match 3-1.
  • Bailey finished with 23 kills and a pair of service aces. Ryanna Clark added 15 kills while Moody finished with 10 kills, three solo and three assisted blocks. Kennedy Clemmer led with 27 digs with Olivia Newman handing out 38 assists.

Score: Roanoke 3 | Shenandoah 0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-12)
Records: Maroons 4-2 / 4-2 ODAC | Hornets 3-3 / 2-3 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke raced out to a 12-3 early lead, thanks in part to three Bailey service aces.
  • Shenandoah trimmed the RC advantage to four before kills by Moody, Clark, and Claire Williams allowed the Maroons to pull away once again.
  • A 12-5 kill advantage and six aces would see Roanoke take a 1-0 lead with a 25-15 opening set win.
  • Roanoke once again raced out to a big early advantage but a Hornet rally would tie the set at 11-11. However, the Maroons would use 12 more kills and five service aces to pull away for the easy, 25-14, win.
  • An 8-0 start to the third set would allow the Maroons to seize the momentum and cruise to the three-set sweep of the Hornets.
  • For the match, Roanoke recorded 38 kills, 15 service aces, and three blocks.
  • Bailey led a balanced attack with 11 kills, Clark added nine, and Ross finished with seven. Clemmer had 19 digs and Newman ended the match with 21 assists.
