Defiance Narrowly Edged 5-4 Against Shenandoah
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Defiance College women's tennis team dropped a close battle this afternoon, falling 5-4 to Shenandoah University at the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
In the doubles flights, the Yellow Jackets fell behind 2-1, their only win coming at third doubles from Mackenzie Combs and Chelsey Braunwart 8-6. At first doubles, partners Hannah Hesterman and Cayla Walker fell 8-6 while tandem A.J. Breneman and Sydney Huston dropped second doubles 8-1.
In singles action, Hesterman was defeated 6-2, 6-4 while Breneman earned the Purple and Gold a victory at second singles 6-4, 7-6 – winning the tie breaker 7. Walker racked up another win for DC at third singles, taking down her opponent 6-1, 6-1 as Combs fell 6-2, 6-4 at fourth singles. In the final two sets, the Yellow Jackets split as Huston lost 7-5, 6-1 and Braunwart earned a win 7-5, 6-1.
Defiance will wrap up their spring schedule tomorrow afternoon as they take on DeSales University. Time TBA.
