    Washington and Lee University junior Taylor Garcia and Sweet Briar College sophomore tandem Ruth de Souza and Allison Wandling closed out the 2021 tennis season by competing in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Tournament.

    The University of Lynchburg and Sweet Briar College collected seven all-conference honors and one special award each while Washington and Lee University earned five first team laurels and the remaining two special individual plaudits to highlight the 2021 All-ODAC Women's Tennis Awards. Generals junior Taylor Garcia earned ODAC Player of the Year honors, while first-year teammate Gabi Moss received ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition. Sweet Briar mentor Dustin Hale was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year by his peers. Lynchburg senior Ellen Druebbisch garnered ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the league's athletic communications personnel.

    Fresh off its 18th straight and 30th overall ODAC title, Washington and Lee University learned its position in the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Team Championship on Monday afternoon. The Generals have been selected to host early round competition in the 42-team bracket.

  • ODAC Women's Tennis Tournament | W&L Eyes 30th League Crown

    Washington and Lee University thought it would have a shot at capturing its 30 ODAC women's tennis title last season, but with a lost season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the possibility of achieving that goal was put on hold. The Generals get that chance over the next two week with W&L holding the top seed entering the 2021 ODAC Women's Tennis Tournament. The conference tournament embarks on a new format this season, both out of necessity from pandemic campus and travel protocols, but also to accommodate the sport's unbalanced schedule. The field is nine teams large for the first time in ODAC history, and will be played on four separate days beginning with first round action on Wednesday, April 28. The quarterfinals will be Saturday, May 1, followed by the semifinals on Wednesday, May 5. The championship will be competed on Saturday, May 8. All matches will be played on member school campuses.

    ODAC women's tennis programs were off to a solid start in 2019-20 prior to the pause in competition. Several teams had performed well at 2019 fall regional and invitational events leading to strong anticipation for the spring 2020 campaign. That eagerness has maintained entering the 2021 spring schedule with the conference's coaches kicking off the year with the annual ODAC Women's Tennis Preseason Poll. Washington and Lee University maintains its traditional position atop the survey with 121 points powered by 11 first place votes. Sweet Briar College collected the remaining top consideration on the way to 96 markers. Three teams are separated by just one point for the next three positions. The University of Lynchburg and Virginia Wesleyan University sit locked with 88 points for third place, while Randolph-Macon College follows closely in fifth with 87 tallies.

    The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its national awards in Division III live on the association's Youtube channel on Wednesday morning. Randolph Women's Tennis senior Ashley Schmitz was named the winner of the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship award.
