Squirrels Lose Tough Game At Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. - Mary Baldwin outhit Ferrum College 15-11 Wednesday, but the Squirrels left 13 runners on base in a 12-7 non-conference loss to the Panthers.

Mary Baldwin took the lead in the second with one run and added another run in the third to lead 2-0. Dylan Rankin and Tyler Morley led off the second with singles and Noah Kessler reached in an error to load the bases with no outs. Tucker Hensley's sac fly scored Rankin for a 1-0 MBU lead. Mary Baldwin loaded the bases again in the third inning and Kessler drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0.

Ferrum took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third, but the Squirrels answered with a run in the top of the fourth to trail by one. Josh Lallo produced a run-scoring single to cut the Ferrum lead to 4-3.

Trailing 7-3 after five innings, the Squirrels traded runs iwth the Panthers in the sixth and seventh. Michael Robertson singled in the sixth, stole second, moved to third in a wild pitch and scored on a Will Earnesty groundout. Kessler led off the seventh inning with a base hit and Colby Cheatham walked. Kessler scored on a base hit Gavin Rush to pull MBU to iwthin 10-5.

After Ferrum scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, Mary Baldwin scored twice in the eighth to trail 11-7. Molrey doubled home a run in the eighth and Kessler added a run-scoring single.

Lallo and Rankin each finished with three hits while Robertson, Morley and Kessler each added two base hits.

The Squirrels are back in action this weekend when they host Methodist for a three-game series.
