MBU Volleyball drops two matches at Maroon Classic

SALEM, Va. - The Mary Baldwin volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday on Day 1 of the Roanoke College Maroon Classic.

The Squirrels played Ferrum College in its first game Friday and were looking to avenge a four-set loss to the Panthers earlier this season.

The Panthers had a close win for the first set win 22-25, but MBU came out strong in the second set and led to a 25-16 set win. The Squirrels then took the third set 25-20 after a game-sealing kill by Sydney Clarke.  The Squirrels fought hard but lost a close fifth set when the Panthers scored the final 3 points to seal the set 14-16.

Soleil Rios Rolon achieved a season-high in digs with 15 and Rachel Christian had a team-high in kills with 14 followed by Sydney Clarke and Leah Sherrill with 12 kills each.

In Friday's second contest, Randolph College swept the Squirrels 25-18, 26-24, 25-15

In the second set, the Squirrels fought back after being down 0-7 to tie the game at 23-23 before the Wildcats closed out the set. Alexis Edmonds and Leah Sherrill led the attack with eight kills apiece, followed by another 15-digs game by Soleil Rios Rolon.

Mary Baldwin, now 1-6 on the season, returns to action Saturday morning (9/10) vs. Hollins at 11:00 am for day 2 of the Maroon Classic.
