MBU loses close game at W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. - Mary Baldwin Baseball went on the road Wednesday and took on Washington and Lee University, losing by a score of 6-9.

The Squirrels jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the game. After a leadoff walk by Gavin Rush, Rush went first to third on a Ty Webster groundout. Michael Barber scored Rush with a double for a 1-0 lead. Barber advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a Josh Lallo double. Dylan Rankin then singled, scoring Lallo for a 3-0 lead.

The Generals responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first before scoring five runs in the third inning to ttake the lead. Two errors and four walks from the Squirrels helped fuel the Generals surge.

MBU responded in the sixth inning with two runs after two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases. Blake French scored on a wild pitch and Kelly Hackley reached first on a throwing error to make it an 8-5 ballgame. The Generals added their final run in the seventh before MBU scored in the eighth. Singles by Colby Cheatham and Ty Webster were followed by Barber's RBi-singles to make it 9-6.

Barber went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs..

MBU is back in action Wednesday (March 15) when the team travels to Bridgewater to face the Eagles at 3:00 p.m..
