Hollins Edges Mary Baldwin In Five Sets

ROANOKE, Va – The Mary Baldwin University women's volleyball took on Hollins University on the road Tuesday night for a hard-fought battle in which the Squirrels came up short, 3-2.

The Fighting Squirrels lost in five sets (25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 21-25 10-15).

MBU got off to a hot start with wins in the first and third set before falling in the close fourth and fifth sets to seal the win for Hollins

Rachel Christian led the team in kills with nine, followed by Leah Sherrill and Sydney Clarke with eight apiece. Clarke also tallied three service aces on the day. Soliel Rios Rolon led the team defensively and tallied a season-high 20 digs.

Sophia Maurer leads Hollins with 17 kills for a total of 21 points to seal the win for Hollins.

The Fighting Squirrels (1-9) return to action on Friday in Staunton against Regent (2-1) at 6 pm for a non-conference matchup.
