STAUNTON, Va. - The Mary Baldwin women's tennis team played several close matches Monday against Randolph College, but the WildCats prevailed, 8-1.
The three doubles matches were competitive, but Randolph wom all three to take a quick lead.
Katlyn Massie and Gretchen Lutz lost their match at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Hannah Eastridge and Virani Bhagat went to the limit at No. 2 doubles, losing in a tiebreaker 8-7. Lauren Hodgkins and Liz Wine also pushed their opponents to the limit, falling 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
Lutz picked up the lone point for MBU with a win at No. 2 singles. She won her first set 6-4 and held a commanding 4-0 lead in the second set when her opponent retired.
Two singles matches went to a third set tiebreaker with the WildCats holding on in each. Eastridge at No. 3 and Hodgkins at No. 5 each lost in split sets.
