No. 19 Emory & Henry Softball Splits An ODAC Doubleheader With Roanoke Tuesday

EMORY, Va. – The No. 19 Emory & Henry College Softball Team (13-3, 3-1 ODAC) was back in action on Tuesday afternoon, hosting Roanoke College (11-3, 5-1 ODAC) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Maroons claimed the first game by a 5-0 score while the Wasps earned the split with a come-from-behind 5-4 win in the nightcap.

Game One – Roanoke 5, No. 19 Emory & Henry 0
After five scoreless innings, Jada Karnes put RC on the board with a double to left-center in the top of the sixth. The Maroons added four runs in the seventh to push the margin to 5-0. Bailey Trapuzzano highlighted the frame with a single through the left side that drove in a pair of runs.

Karnes earned the shutout in the circle, allowing three hits while striking out six. E&H senior Cameron Derr (Denver, N.C.) suffered her first loss of the year allowing five runs on six hits while striking out five.

Game Two – No. 19 Emory & Henry 5, Guilford 4
Roanoke jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Rachel Sirbaugh and Jordyn DiFava had back-to-back RBI base knocks. E&H responded in the bottom of the frame as senior third baseman Allyson Steadman (Kingsport, Tenn.) plated junior centerfielder Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) with a sacrifice fly.

In the third, the Maroons scored twice to extend their lead to 4-1. Trapuzzano notched a sacrifice fly while Sirbaugh tagged a solo home run to highlight the frame.

Emory & Henry closed the gap to 4-3 after the fourth as senior pitcher Alex Braun (Lexington, S.C.) and senior first baseman Kendall Varner (Bassett, Va.) both drilled solo home runs to left field.

In the fifth the Wasps tied the contest on a double to center by Thomas to plate freshman left fielder Kenzie Ingo (Wytheville, Va.). E&H got the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Varner which drove in Braun.

Braun earned the complete-game win in the circle to improve to 6-2 on the year, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out five with no walks. RC's Shanan Hester suffered the loss in relief, allowing two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Emory & Henry will be on the road this weekend when it takes on Shenandoah University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Wasps will face Eastern Mennonite University on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
