HILTON HEAD, SC - The Wittenberg Tigers continued to play well on Day 2 of their annual Spring Break trip in a pair of victories over Penn St.-Behrend and Sweet Briar.

Wittenberg improved to 5-1 on the season after defeating Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference champion Penn St.-Behrend 6-3 and Sweet Briar by a 7-2 count. Both matches were played a day after the Tigers opened the trip with a win over Emory & Henry and a day before the Spring Break finale against Marietta.

Against Penn St.-Behrend, Wittenberg started out with two wins in three doubles matches. Freshman Chelsea Reeder (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and Olivia Underwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Marian) teamed up for an 8-2 win at the No. 1 position, while junior Lexi Garza (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and senior Andrea Gaietto (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) were winners at No. 2.

In singles, Underwood claimed a key point by winning a pair of tiebreakers at the No. 1 position. After losing the first set, Underwood rallied to win the second set by virtue of a 7-0 whitewashing in the tiebreaker, and she followed that with a 10-8 win in a tiebreaker to determine the third set.

Gaietto followed with a win at No. 3 singles, sophomore Jaimie Whaley (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) won at No. 5 and freshman Jade Brown (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) rounded things out with a victory at No. 6.

The Sweet Briar match started in much the same fashion, with a 2-1 Wittenberg edge in doubles play. Reeder and Underwood won at No. 2 and Gaietto teamed with Garza to pick up a victory at No. 3.

The Tigers then won points in singles at positions 2 through 6. Reeder won at No. 2, sophomore Morgan McDermott (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsley School) topped her foe at No. 3, Gaietto won at No. 4, Whaley added a victory at No. 5 and Garza completed the match successfully at No. 6.
