Men's Tennis rolls past Randolph (Va.) 9-0 in Spring Break opener

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis program opened its 2019 Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on Sunday afternoon, cruising past Randolph (Va.) 9-0 at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Center.
With the nonconference victory, the Polar Bears even their 2018-19 record at 2-2 overall. The Wildcats drop to 0-7 overall this season.
ONU kicked off its week-long stay along the East Coast sweeping all three doubles matches on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Vinh Thai (Galloway/Charles) and freshman Zach Beaschler claimed an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles; sophomore Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and freshman Noah Elliott (Hilliard/Davidson) won 8-2 on the No. 2 court; and junior Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) and freshman Nate Meadors (Dublin/Jerome) won an 8-0 decision in the No. 3 doubles slot.
In singles action, Elliott, freshman Andrew Cochran (Wooster), Christian, and Meadors each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories in the No. 3-6 slots, respectively.
Meanwhile, Thai recorded a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Randolph's Alex Kulvivat at No. 1 singles, and Beaschler won 6-0, 6-1 against Karson Healy in No. 2 singles action.
Sunday's matchup marked the first meeting all-time between the two programs.
The Polar Bears will return to action Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. match against Wilkes (Pa.) at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Center.
