#19 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Randolph-Macon, 19-9

The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team ended the regular season with a 19-9 victory at Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday in Ashland, Va. The Eagles move their record to 12-5 on the season.

Sophomore Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) scored five goals and added two assists for the Eagles, while junior Erin Murphy (Virginia Beach, Va., Bishop Sullivan) added four goals and one assist. Sophomore Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson) added one score and four assists.

The Eagles rushed out to an early lead, and scored the first eight goals of the contest. Six different Eagles scored the first seven goals, as Murphy tallied twice, as did Kennedy to run the score to 8-0 with 9:38 left in the first half. 

The Yellow Jackets scored three of the final four goals of the half to move the score to 9-3 at intermission, but Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) scored twice and Murphy added another score out of halftime to move the Eagle lead to 12-4 with 23:47 to play. After a Randolph-Macon score, the Eagles netted four straight goals to take a 16-5 lead, and held the lead at double digits for the remainder of the game.

UMW outshot the hosts, 43-18, and had 32 ground balls to 21 for RMC. The Eagles won 20 of 30 draw controls, with Jenny Atmar (Houston, Texas, Bellaire) grabbing three draw controls and causing three turnovers. UMW freshman goalie Kathryn Stiltz (Marietta, Ga., Walton) made six saves in gaining the win for the Eagles.

UMW will now await a potential bid to the NCAA Tournament. Announcements will be made public on Monday.
