UMW Men's Basketball Falls to Lynchburg, 81-66

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped an 81-66 decision to Lynchburg College in the third game of the Beck Company Classic in Newport News on Saturday evening. UMW evens its record at 1-1.

The Eagles fell behind early due to shooting woes, but were able to trim the deficit to two at halftime, 28-26. Lynchburg started hot in the second half and never looked back, leading by as many as 20, while the Eagles were able on several occasions to cut the deficit to single digits.

Junior Tad Dickman (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) again led the Eagles with 14 points and eight rebounds. Freshman E.J. Willis (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) added 12 points and six rebounds, and sophomore forward J.R. Gray (Staunton, Va., Robert E. Lee) had 10 points and seven boards for the UMW attack.

In all, the Eagles shot 33.8% from the floor, with eight three pointers, but went just 16-28 from the free throw line.

Mary Washington will make its home debut on Tuesday when it hosts Marymount University in the Capital Athletic Conference opener at 4:00 p.m.
