UMW Men's Soccer Falls to Va. Wesleyan in Season Opener, 2-0
The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday afternoon at the Battleground in both teams' season opener. The Eagles fall to 0-1, and will host Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as part of the UMW Soccer Classic.

The Marlins scored at 40:17, as Mac Frederick scored off a throw in by Roberto Maldonado, after outshooting the Eagles, 8-4, in the first half. The Marlins added a late tally by Brandon Massie at 87:59 on a pass from Adam Beck for an insurance score.

For the game, VWC outshot Mary Washington, 13-7, with the Eagles holding a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Emmett Rutkowski had eight saves for Mary Washington, while Ryan Zmuda had three saves for the Marlins.
