UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Randolph-Macon, 18-8, Sarazin and Blair with 4 Goals Each

Senior  Kayla Sarazin and junior Katie Blair scored four goals each as the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team topped Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets, 18-8, on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles move to 2-0 on the season.

The Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the first 5 minutes of the match, but stormed back and jumped ahead with 5-straight goals from Kayla Sarazin, Katie Blair, Maya Koebke, and Erin Stienberg. Katie Blair scored a pair of goals in two and a half minutes apart at 9:01 and 6:31 in the 1st period, with all 5 Eagle goals coming in a span of six minutes. In the second, the same pattern was seen as the Yellow Jackets scored 2 goals and the Eagles answered with 5-straight goals from Bridget Crowley, Maya Koebke, Katie Blair, Clare Madden, and Caeley Terapane. The score at the end of two periods was 10-4, with UMW going into the break with momentum.

Sarazin opened the third quarter scoring at 10:21, with RMC and UMW splitting the next two goals and the Yellow Jackets scoring three in a row in 3 minutes when Bridget Crowley finished the 3rd-period scoring action at 4:24. The score at the end of 3 periods had the Eagles up 13-8, and this lead would grow to 18-8 by the end of the match off of goals by Koebke, Blair, Sarazin, and Steinberg.

The Yellow Jackets led in shots, 30-29, but tied the Eagles in draw controls with 15. UMW goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp made 13 saves on the day. Sarazin added six draw controls, with Meredith Farley at 5.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they host Shenandoah University at 12:00 p.m.
