Scarlet Hawks Close Puerto Rico Trip With Loss to Shenandoah

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO—The Illinois Institute of Technology women's basketball team embarked on day two of the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan on Friday, where they squared-off against their second-consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent in Shenandoah University. The Hornets' stingy defense lived up to their ODAC-leading 53.5 scoring defense en route to a 62-37 victory over the Scarlet Hawks.

IIT falls to 0-10 while Shenandoah improves to 6-3.

Shannon O'Donnell, who led all players with 19 points for IIT, added to her NACC-leading 51 made free throws and 78 free throw attempts prior to Friday with a 9-of-12 figure against the Hornets. Brooke Rowan was within striking distance of a double double with nine points and seven rebounds while O'Donnell and recent newcomer Josie Mace each pulled down six boards for the Scarlet Hawks.

The three-point basket continued to be an achilles heal for both teams as each side converted just two shots. Ten of 12 players that saw action for Shenandoah contributed points, led by Jordan Sondrol's 12.

The Scarlet Hawks have now completed their 2019-20 non-conference schedule and will return to action on Saturday, January 4 at the Keating Sports Center against Concordia (Wis.) at 4:15 p.m.
