The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to 20th ranked University of Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground for Homecoming. The Eagles slip to 5-10 on the season.

After a scoreless first quarter, in which the visitors had a significant number of shots and corners, it was the Eagles who jumped on top in the second. In the third, the Hornets answered with the tying score as well as the go ahead tally, and Lynchburg added another in the fourth for the final margin.

The Hornets led in shots, 32-4, as well as penalty corners, 17-2. UMW junior goalkeeper Bailey McNabb turned in a stellar day, including a one-on-one save on a breakaway. She ended with eight saves, and junior Annie Grace Louthan added a pair of defensive saves.

The Eagles will visit Dickinson College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
