Nozemack, Votapek Lift UMW Men's Lacrosse Past Bridgewater, 12-9

Senior J.D. Nozemack scored five goals and added an assist and freshman Dave Votapek added four scores to lift the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory at Bridgewater College on Wednesday evening in Bridgewater. The Eagles improve to 6-5 on the season.

Nozemack started strong, scoring twice in the opening minutes, to give UMW a 2-0 lead. After a pair of Bridgewater scores, Nozemack posted his third goal of the quarter, and carried the Eagles to a 3-2 lead after one.

The second quarter saw back-and-forth action, with the teams trading scores. Votapek scored his first of the night with 12:24 left, and, after the home team answered, Votapek netted another goal, on a Garrett Keogh assist. Bridgewater scored to cap the second and send the UMW lead to 5-4 at halftime.

Nozemack scored with 11:24 remaining in the third on a Balin Galbreath assist, and Votapek followed with his third of the evening, on a Jackson Davis assist with 10:55 to go. Keogh scored on a Henry Moag assist following a Bridgewater goal, and Nozemack found the nets as well, but the hosts scored three of the last four goals of the frame to pull to within 9-8 with 15 minutes remaining.

Mike Seraphin-Jonesscored in the opening minute, giving UMW the momentum, and Votapek followed on a Davis assist. After a Bridgewater goal, Keogh scored on a Nozemack assist to finish the scoring.

UMW led in shots, 54-31, as well as ground balls, 35-33. Eagle keeper Riley Green made 11 saves on the evening.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, when they visit Montclair State University at noon.
