Taibl's Two Scores Lift UMW Men's Soccer Past Hampden-Sydney

Senior forward Ryan Taibl (Centreville, Va., Westfield) scored a pair of first half goals to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 7-1-1 on the year.

Taibl started the proceedings at 5:15 with an unassisted goal. He upped the lead to 2-0 at 28:19 on an assist from classmate T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Me., Gould Academy). The Tigers answered quickly with a header goal by Curran Blackwell at 29:05 to cut the deficit to 2-1, but neither team would score in the final 61 minutes.

Both teams had 12 shots in the game, while UMW held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. UMW's Alec Constantine (McLean, Va., Langley) had two saves and Hunter Wootten (Westhampton Beach, N.Y., Westhampton Beach) none in the win, while HSC's John Robert Plyler had one stop.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host \#2 Christopher Newport University at 4:00 p.m.
