Korson Strikes Out 13 as CMS Baseball Takes 7-0 Win over Bridgewater



CLAREMONT, Calif. - Stags starting pitcher Jarrett Korson recorded a season-best 13 strikeouts, allowing only two hits while pitching a shutout as the CMS baseball team defeated the Bridgewater (Va.) Eagles 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Arce Field.

CMS improved to 6-2 on the season and are currently riding a four-game winning streak with the victory. Bridgewater (Va.) slipped to 6-3 overall on the year with the loss.

Korson also improved to 2-0 on the year and leads the team in strikeouts with 25. Ryan Warm, who also boasts an undefeated 3-0 record has 16 strikeouts on the season. 

The Stags had three players finish with two hits or more and outhit the Eagles 10-2 on the day. Nick Wilson continued his hot streak after recording two homers in yesterdays 12-5 win over Centenary (La.) and finished 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Jack Potter was 2-for-3 with one run score and added a team-best three RBI, including a pair of RBI doubles, while Brandon Rho was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and one RBI.

Potter doubled down the left field line with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, allowing Evan Kelly to score after being walked to give the Stags a 1-0 lead. CMS then extended its lead in the bottom of the sixth as Wilson singled to center field to bring home Rho, and Potter doubled up the hill in left field as Wilson rounded the bases for a 3-0 advantage. Cade Kritsch then singled to right field, bringing Potter in to home plate to extend the CMS lead to 4-0. 

The Stags scored two more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to close out the game. Rho doubled to left field to bring home Marco Castillo for the fifth. Potter then added his third RBI of the day after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Paul Roche provided the finisher with a sac fly to center field, bringing home Tyler Shaw in the bottom of eighth to take seal a 7-0 victory.

CMS will be back in action tomorrow as they host Centenary (La.) for the second time in three days on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
